44TH DAY - 321 DAYS TO COME

To S.P.I. In Jim's office there were copies of two French games left there
by someone who is negotiating to put out the S.P.I. games in France.
OBJECTIF EPARGNE and FAMILION. Ran off repros of the rules but
then got Redmund's permission to take them home until I talk to Jim
(who is taking a course this week). Also got Redmund's o.k. to bring in
my S&T column on 2/25.
From Sal got two copies of #42, one of #40, and one of #38. Ran
off repros of my column in #42. Also made copy of the letter
from Harold Frankel of Kohner and the material from Martin Gardner
on ZIM (COGITO). // Told Sal I'd bring him a copy of PATTON.

To Toy Fair. Picked up copies of TOYS TRADE NEWS (2/13/74). Ohio
Art has added some games to ETCH A SKETCH. Nothing else new.
Picked up PLAYTHING PLAYTHINGS (Toy Fair Highlights). Tare out layout
of the Statler-Hilton exhibits. Nothing new.
- To M.B. [Milton Bradley] Spoke to Mickie Mackay a moment. She was busy and suggested
that we get together next week. (Incidentally I met her assistant
Terry Monday, who thanked me for me info on [illegible strikeout] CHECKERS.
- To the A.H. [Avalon Hill] showroom. Dan Greenwood and Tom Shaw will be in 2/18 and 2/19.
- To Hasbro. Got a catalog from someone whose name I didn't get. Gave
him S&T #42 (I believe) and my address. He said he'd send me review
copies of DOUBLE DEALER (developed from Claude's auction GAME),
HIGH STAKES, and THE GREAT ESTATE. The one to contact at Hasbro
is Mich Mitchel Reed, Associate Director of Marketing.
- To Craft Master (actually before Hasbro). George Marlowe showed me the
line (and I had a sketch made). Met [bracket drawn] Norman Fabricant
[bracket drawn] 94-19 64th Road
[bracket drawn] Rego Park, N.Y. 11374
[bracket drawn] 459-2002
who left engineering 3 years ago
to become a free lance game de-
signer (mechanical engineering).
This year he has TILT with Lake-
side and BLAST with Ideal, which is a redo of one he had previously
with Ideal. Exchanged cards. (Had some lunch.)
- To Aurora. Spoke to [bracket drawn] Jeff Rochlis
[bracket drawn] Aurora Ad & PR Mgr.
[bracket drawn] 516-483-8600
Gave him copy of
S&T (#40 I believe).
He'll send me copies
of PURSUIT and SHIFTYCHECKERS. Also ODDS MAKER POKER-DICE, the
only new things of possible interest this year. (Had some lunch.)
- Pressman. List TRI-OMINOS, DOUBLE DECKER and standards.
- Ray Larsen - rep for "Electronic Data Controls Corp." - oly only new
game is COMPUTER HORSERACING - and "Alabe." Looked at REWORD.
There is a deck of cards (54 I believe) with different letters on
the 2 sides (see catalog) and a few "wild." First The cards are
dealt out to the players. The first four plays are in turn
placing letters in 4 compartments to form a 4-letter word. After
this players place cards as fast as they can to cover an ex-
isting letter and form a new word. All letters are face up and an
opponents letter can be used - to prepare to use one of your
letters. First to play out wins. In case of an impasse there is a
provision for removing some cards. Can also be played with 5-letter
(cont. on 2/12)
