FEBRUARY 1974 - FRIDAY 8
39TH DAY - 328 DAYS TO COME
Call from Felicia. She rcd. a letter from Schaper.
Bill Garrity and some others want to get together with her
to look at new items. There was also a similar letter to me
addressed c/o her. She set up a date for 2/19 at 11 a.m.
If Lakeside doesn't take SPACE she'll show it to them. I
suggested that if Kohner didn't take POP-SHAPE-AND-SHATTER,
we could show it as SHAPE AND SHATTER.
We also considered RIGHT ANGLES and FOREIGN INTRIGUE.
If MONEY CARD and OPTILE flopped last year neither would have much chance.
Felicia will show some things by Denis Ladouceur to Dick Harris
next week. She got Dick to admit that even tho M.B. doesn't
have any of my games I am one of the country's outstanding inventors.
Felicia asked about ECLIPSE. I said I'd call Claude.
She spoke to Arnold Stubbman's secretary, who appreciated the courtesy. She said that she was doing quite well and might even be able to give a dividend.
Rcd. a letter from Frank Armbruster on my collection and Santa Clara. Also included a reprint of an article on a series of his PUZZLEs.
Rcd. a "Newsletter" sent by Bob Abbott. Mentioned ELEUSIS,
BABEL, and ABBOT's NEW CARD GAMES. Also VARIETY.
Rcd. the rules for COGITO and the repro of Martin's 2/74
SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN column. The column gives rules for
CRAM, CROSSCRAM, QUADRAPHAGE and a variation of
Piet Hein's TAC TIX (or NIMBI) by James Bynum.
After translating COGITO called Martin Gardner. He rcd. a
letter from
{Marek Penszko
{[Personal address omitted for privacy.]
{00-789 Warszawa, Poland
In connection with an offer of a copy of Lech Pijanowski's
book to Martin, Penszko said that Lech had died on 1/5/74.
Penszko also offered 50 GIER NA KOLOROWYCH PLANSZACH and
a Russian book IN ONE'S OWN TIME in exchange for 3 books
on English word puzzles. This fellow is writing several puzzle
columns in Poland, but is particularly interested in word puzzles.
Since the books Penszko wants are expensive and Martin
already has Lech's book, he is not trading.
Martin's column also mentioned the Springbok edition of
PENTOMINOES.
Called Claude to tell him to get ECLIPSE to Felicia.
Felicia, in her call, said she had some confidential information that she
couldn't tell me. Then she said that if Keith Tuggle commissions me to
prepare GAMEs I should either get paid for it or should
get a bigger royalty.
We agreed that she won't make an appointment with Keith.
Instead we'll each drop in and size up the situation.
