JANUARY 1974 - SUNDAY 27
THIRD SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY - 27TH DAY - 338 DAYS TO COME

Sent 80¢ for the paper on PATERSON'S WORM (see 1/24)

Doing some thinking on an idea for a p&p GAME that I orig-
inally thought of when looking at a tile floor with an ir-
regular pattern. A board is set up like the one shown.
[drawing of a board] players in turn fill in one area with their
color - possibly with the limitation that it must
be next to the one previously colored, if pos
-sible. When any rectangle of two or more
spaces is completed the player scores the
number of spaces in the rectangle.

Refiled Martin Gardner's columns and the other material
from SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN in an expanding file. Started
preparing a list of the subject matter for each.
On one of the pages of the 10/57 art column there was
an ad for a p&p game called TIC-TAC-HEX.

To Felicia. Douglas Bolton of Cadaco there and, after having
seen some of the things Felicia had to show him, did not have
much time to spend. He did look at TRAVELINE, which I
brought, and he took it with him. I also brought TOTALLY -
but he didn't want to look at it.
After Bolton left she showed me a game by Alan Newman,
called WIDGET. There is a board with an outside track. There are
a number of square pcs. that can be put together to form
4 different inventions - 4 cards squares for each invention and a square
can only be used in a specific invention, I believe. These
squares are placed at random in the spaces. Players move around
the board by choosing a move from 1 to 7, placing a marker
on that move. There are 28 spaces on the track and all players
will go around in the 7 moves, unless a player loses his turn
due to all his possible spaces being occupied. At this time
players can put together their inventions and sell them, but
may keep them for another trip around and a possible higher
price (they fluctuate individually) but must pay a storage fee.
Next round another player plays first and continue until a set
time of a player reaches a set amount of money. (Rough idea.)
Told Felicia that it looked interesting but that it didn't seem to
develop to a climax. She wants to show it to Bob Johnson, even
tho she is afraid that Parker's THE INVENTORS will compete.
Alan's football game is hurt by Parker's PRO DRAFT and he
