24 THURSDAY - JANUARY 1974
24TH DAY - 341 DAYS TO COME

At Job Lot bought 4 more of the 5¢ plastic boxes. On Reade St.
bought 3 more packages of the Lego substitutes at 69¢ each.
This time there was some green and a few purple, and a few
grey, and some different color reds. Also for $1.00 bought
24 wooden cubes (1 1/4") with different sets of numbers, or
blanks on the faces.
On Chambers St. bought Nov. 1973 SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN. Martin's
article on P which discussed PATTERSON'S WORM suggested
possibilities of competitive games. For 80¢ a report on it is
available.

To "Gamut of Games." Al Zygier was there talking to Phil
about the art work on a war GAME, or possibly a series
of them. When he left David Isby came in and they
also suggested talked about war games. David said that Al
Nefi
had a German game catalog for me. Phil suggested
that I go get it while he spoke to David.
To S.P.I. Spoke to Jim Dunnigan and he seemed quite optimistic
about the future. The games are selling well. S&T sub-
scriptions are up to about 27,500. And they are negoti-
ating with a number of financial institutions for large
lines of credit. I brought up the general game magazine
we had talked about before. He said it is still definitely
something they would like to look at, but probably not
before two a year or two. I mentioned that I might find it
expedient to take a job in engineering unless I could see
some other income in the future. He said that, if the mag.
developes [develops], my duties could be tailered [tailored] to my available time.
Mainly he wants me to go over manuscripts and come up with
some of the centerfold games. In any case I won't be in charge
altho he didn't say this in so many words.
Spoke to Al Nofi. Someone took the German game catalog
and he'll try to find it and then contact me. He said that
there were some letters for me that he had placed in the
catalog and these were missing too. He did give me a letter
that was sent to Jim Dunnigan complaining about my REALM
review, together with a carbon of a letter sent to me at
"Gamut of Games." (Later picked up the letter at "Gamut.")
From shipping room took two a copy of AMERICAN REVOLUTION
and 4 each of S&T #41 (which I mistakenly thought was the
new issue) and MOVES #12. The latter contains a long article on
RED STAR/WHITE STAR including more errata and some revisions;
short pieces on GRENADIER, SOLOMON CAMPAIGN,two a variation
of SNIPER! called THE TENEMENT GAME, CA; article on
WORLD WAR II; short review of ESCAPE FROM COLDITZ by John Mansfield
in his new column "F.O." - he also mentions me; errata for
DARK AGES and GRENADIER.
To "Gamut of Games" again. David Isby was still there talking about
the war GAMEs. Later Phil told me that a company "x" is involved
in a new series of war games and wants to be kept secret.
