JANUARY 1974 - MONDAY 21
STONEWALL JACKSON BORN 1824 - 21ST DAY - 344 DAYS TO COME

Call from Felicia. Gini Scott recommended someone to her who
sent in a description of a puzzle-game, which I think he
calls SNARLS. There are 24 cubes which are placed next to
or on top of each other trying to form (or is it avoiding)
"Snarls"™. Felicia asked my opinion as to whether she should send
for the model. I said that it sounded interesting but that she
knows better than I do whether there is a market for it. She said
she won't send for it.
She wondered why Gini didn't handle it herself and I told her that
I hear that Gini had stopped working as an agent.
Someone called her on Thursday. The fellow got her number at Brentano's
and wanted mine. (Was it Donald Cohen - see 1/18.)
She rcd. a letter from Kathy Brooks who said that things were jumping
there and apologized for not writing sooner. She said that we
should be hearing about our foreign royalties for 3rd quarter
at the end of the month (what about the 2nd?).

Rcd. letter from Don Greenwood. Mentioned BUSINESS STRATEGY,
OUTDOOR SURVIVAL, THE GENERAL,
and the 3 games that didn't
reach me last year.

Read thru the two small books for MACARTHUR - New Guinea and
Inchon.

Call from Phil Orbanes. He asked if it was true that Marvin Glass
died. Yes.

The p&p games - WORDPLAY, etc. - didn't do as well as expected in
the single games and sold out in the sets. Phil thinks that
they may have sold a total of about 60,000 of each title, but
he will probably know more next week. In the meantime Mannie doesn't
know whether he wants to go ahead with the next batch or not.
Phil liked the people at Dynamic Design but doesn't think anyone there
knows anything about games. They have the line ready for 1974, but after
that there may be a chance for us to supply games after that. The games
for 1974:-
THINK TWICE:- A TV type game where one player gives his partner hints
in guessing a pair of connected words.
COMPATABILITY:- Another TV type game where players answer questions
and their partners guess what their answers are.
XAVIERA's GAME:- A man and a woman each draw a card with
a part of the body. Must come up with a connection that the
other players approve of. (Rough idea.)
PONENTS - A two hand CHINESE CHECKERS. I mentioned JUMPIN
and Phil said there was a similarity.
GO.
1776 - A trivial game similar to OUTLAW TRAIL.
Dynamic Design did a total business of about $2,000,000
in 1973. Half of this is standards such as BACKGAMMON, etc.
SEDUCTION was the best of the non-standards, selling about
35,000. AIRPORT sold about 20,000. EMPEROR OF CHINA bombed.
