JANUARY 1974 - SATURDAY 19
ROBERT E. LEE BORN 1807 - 19TH DAY - 348 DAYS TO COME
Wrote a letter to Keith Tuggle telling him that I had sent
out RACECOURSE and THE DOT GAME. Also wrote to the
manufacturers telling them.
With Phil Laurence played ZODIAC STAR CHESS. Just skimmed
the surface - but looked interesting.
Played FOREIGN INTRIGUE, using my latest ideas (see 1/12), Annette
& liked it so much that we played it a second time. BB won both.
(cont. from 1/18) [1/24]
Rcd. TOYS for Jan. '74. Mainly devoted to hobbies and nothing
of particular interest to me.
Borrowed a copy of XENOGOGIC (Vol. 6, No. 1), from Al Nofi.
He said it was pretty awful. Later looked at it and found the
following: -
Article on MONOPOLY attributing its invention to Charles Darrow.
Mentioned that John McLaughlin started as a lithographer in
1808 and that the co. was bought out by M.B. in 1920.
Description of THE PENTAGON GAME, a Vietnam war game
invented by two Britulus Britons and supposed to be available
in the U.S.
Mention of games put out by THE INSTITUTE FOR DIPLOMATIC STUDIES
POLARIS, DOOMSDAY, COLD WAR GAME, TOP SECRET, and
TRI THETA EPSILON EXERCISE, dealing with events in
Yugoslavia after Tito.
In an article "The new games and the free form Historical
Simulation" the following occurs: - "This syndrome [the
necessity of winning] is present from MONOPOLY> to ACQUIRE
to BATTLE OF THE BULGE." Also mentioned DIPLOMACY
HYPERECONOMIC DIPLOMACY, STRATEGY I, BLITZKRIEG,
and THE FRANCO-PRUSSIAN WAR. Also mentioned
GODAWFUL GAME, a free form historical simulation in which
the Gamesmaster has a lot of discretion.
[Started 1/24]
[Illegible crossed out] (cont. from 1/28) [1/28]
fact he asked about the battle names. I said to use Korea rather
than Inchon [Enchon?].
For 1975 I suggested WASHINGTON which he liked a lot. Maybe he'll
have us do ROMMEL too. If HOLIDAY does fairly well in 1974 he'll
redo the artwork and put it in a bookshelf.
I asked what had happened when Gary Sherbell came there with
OPTION CHESS (see 12/26/73). Bob had Brady look at it with the idea of
combining ideas into NOVINKA - paying Gary. He is not doing it at all since luck CHESS
doesn't sell according to Bill Tyler.
