JANUARY 1974 - SUNDAY 13
BAPTISM OF THE LORD - 13TH DAY - 352 DAYS TO COME

Wrote up some rule changes for TAKE-A-WORD.

(cont. from 1/14) [1/14]

cards allow for trading of players switching franchises,
loss of "box office" due to bad weather, injuries of
players, etc.
If one player comes out ahead for all three seasons he wins
the game. If not, the one with most money at end of third
season is the winner. (Fairly complete listing of the basic
idea of the game.) (Felicia said she liked the idea but
didn't think it had any commercial possibilities. I said that
I thought it was very timely and looked like fun.)
FERRET A field 11x11 has 6 spaced marked with * scattered
around the board. 115 letter discs fill all but the * spaces.
Players in turn move one letter to an empty space and then
form a word, moving in any of the 8 directions between
letters, using the moved letter. Each letter used is circled
with a ring of the player's color. Letters previously used
by another player can be used and the rings are changed. When
4 play each has 25 rings; 3 play - 33 rings; 2 play - 50 rings.
When a player places all his rings the game is over. (Both Felicia
and I thought the board was overwhelming. I suggested
making it smaller. I also suggested using transparent markers
in different colors instead of the rings - to save money.
THE SUPERSTAR GAME: Didn't get many of the details - but it
didn't seem too interesting. Memorizing where colored
mark cards were placed was part of the play and had nothing
at all to do with the theme. Players also have to read lines
occasionally to the satisfaction of the other players.
He had 4 p&p games all of which were survisable - but not ex-
citing.
AMAZING: A maze is set up on a 6x6 [drawing of 6x6 grid]
field, across corners, as shown. 2 play and
each tries to determine the opponent's maze
by calling out three connected boxes - such as
A1, B1, C1 - and is told whether they are clear
or not. If there is an objection it is not i-
dentified.
DISCOVERY: Players (how many?) each have a 5x5 field with
the spaces numbered from 1 to 25. Each player in turn calls
out a space and a letter. All players place that letter in that
space. After all spaces are filled there is a set time in
which players can pick out words, going in any direction and
turning as often as desired. Words that are duplicated are e-
liminated. Others (I believe) score the square of their length.
CHANGLINGS: Each player secretly chooses a four-letter word
and then they announce to each other. Object is to form
a "word ladder" between them without exceeding the 10 intermediate
