12 SATURDAY - JANUARY 1974
12TH DAY - 353 DAYS TO COME
Rcd. a nice letter from Charles Hartman, together with his game
I DECLARE. In letter mentioned ALIVE IN WONDERLAND and an
upcoming game called FLATION.
Made a board and pieces for TAKE-A-WORD.
Made a board for FOREIGN INTRIGUE with a "Headquarters" space
and spaces to place the different decks.
Played FOREIGN INTRIGUE with the Sapersteins. The job of keeping
track of the cards in the "Assignment" deck was such a
hassle that I made a mistake and went to a city that I
wasn't permitted. Later decided to throw the "Assignment"
cards into a discard pile and then reshuffle them as req'd.
Also realized that the board with the cities had very
little meaning. Came up with the following. When a player
goes to a city in which another spy already is their there,
the "old hand," or "old hands" if more than one, pass a face
down car "Assignment" card to the newcomer and get a "Yes
or No" answer as to whether he may go there. The card is
returned to the "old hand."
Played TAKE-A-WORD. BB and Phylis tied for high. In me round
the "Q4" tile could not be taken.
Gave Harold S&T #36, 37, 38, 39. He already had all but the last. A friend would like the
duplicates.
(cont, from 1/13) [1/14]
spaces provided. The first to complete wins. If neither can score 2
points for each letter changed towards the goal and 1 point
minus for each not (I believe). Incidentally one works down from
one word, the other from the other.
TIC TAC OH NO: Object to get three in a
row on the field shown. 2 play. [drawing of diamond shaped field]
Felicia talked about Alan and his wife
coming here to see my collection. I
suggested their picking up Felicia on the
way. We'll do it in about 3 Wednesdays -
Wednesday being Alan's best day.
Played one round of TAKE-A-WORD. They likes it. Left it.
Felicia, before Alan came, asked if I'd be willing to work on
the game MINEFIELD for part of the action. Sure. Owens-
Illinois likes the basic idea but wants more play value.
Looked at the circuit. It is simply two wires with bridges
between them at many points. The contact is bent away and makes
contact when a magnetic pc. moves above. This sets off a
buzzer and the "soldier" is lost.
Felicia said to start thinking but not to do anything until
she clears it with O.-I.
In morning called "Gamut of Games." Carrie not in. Tried going
there during the day. Still not in.
