10 THURSDAY - JANUARY 1974
10TH DAY - 355 DAYS TO COME
Call from Felicia. Alan Newman had been there with a
puzzle-game he called RIGHT ANGLES. Felicia liked it but
thought it reminded her of one of mine.
He also had a number of games, one of which is an elab-
erate orate but different word game he calls FERRET.
Made date for next Monday at 1 to see the games. Alan
will be there too.
Felicia says he is very productive, does his homework,
makes very attractive models, and has a game group that
plays games very frequently.
He also has a series of p&p games which Felicia will show
to 3M,
The paper company that originally was interested in Alan's
GREAT AMERICAN ECOLOGY GAME was involved in too many other
projects that took precedence so Felicia is now showing it to
another paper company.
Told her that I had an excellent, inexpensive, word game,
TAKE-A-WORD. I'll bring it with me Monday.
Told her that I was working on polishing up FOREIGN INTRIGUE.
She's going to call up Bob Johnson and try to get him to set a
date to come in.
Told her that I was spending a lot of time working on MACARTHUR.
She sowed THE 31ST HEX and some other things to a small
Mass. company - that wants to stay secret - that has an
office at 200 Fifth. They returned them all.
Felicia was impressed with an S&T ad she saw in "Smithsonian Mag."
Reading on MACARTHUR most of the day.
(cont. from 1/11) [1/11]
At Marboro looked at A HISTORY OF CHESS (see 1/7). It was well-
illustrated but didn't seem to have much, if any, info new
to me. Among the variants in the chapter devoted to this
were was ATOMIC CHESS which seems to be much simpler than
LES ECHES ATOMIQUES DE NASSOUN BEY TAHER in Boyer's
LES JEUX D'ECHECS NON ORTHODOXES. I believe that the game is
played with the regular set. A pawn can be promoted to an
"atomic bomb." When it moves (how?) it explodes wiping off
all pcs. in the 8 surrounding spaces and itself, of course. (Rough
idea.) It also had ECHECS HEXAGONAUX LE JEU GLINSKI (see
NOUVEAUX JEUX D'ECHECS NON ORTHODOXES).
