JANUARY 1974 - TUESDAY 1
HAPPY NEW YEAR - 1ST DAY - 364 DAYS TO COME

Sent card - letter to Alister Wm. MacIntyre. Asked him about GAMBIT, CHIRP, GROW, EVOLUTION. Mentioned NOST-ALGIA #153 and Alister's announcement including RAUMKRIEG, GUERILLA! and NUCLEAR DESTRUCTION. Realized that Alister didn't say that he had invented these games. Probably the latter is the one that Richard Loomis did. Also asked about DICTATOR and VEGAS.
Card-letter to Lou Zocchi. Mentioned ALIEN SPACE and Charles Hartman's ALIVE IN WONDERLAND.
Card-letter to Charles Hartman. Mentioned ALIVE IN WONDERLAND.
Card-letter to Eric Nielsen. Mentioned ARROW LIFE and 2ND CHESS.

a set strategy) as to price entered in the table shown and come up with a number from 1 to 81. Other decisions concerning Marketing (2 choices) and Research and Engineering (2 choices) come up with a letter from A to D for each company. These are entered in 4 x 4 matrixes and the results put into a 16 x 16, giving a number from 1 to 256. Each player has an 81 page book with entries from 1 to 256 on each page telling him his potential sales. (There is more about building factories, loans, etc. but the heart are these grids and the 81 page books. Completely unrealistic as a commercial game.
EXPLORATION uses grids with the same layout for playing a game of exploring for minerals.
CONQUEST uses a different but similar set of grids to play a game of conquering colonies.
(Note: In the samples of the results tables for all of these games the illustrated entries seem rather random, but they may not be.)
WILDCAT by Charles M. Tinder, [address], Moscow, Idaho 83843. A square field has 81 holes in a 9 x 9 matrix. Each hole at the start is filled with a rubber plug. Two cardboard sheets which can be placed in 8 orientations each indicate the producing oil wells. No well is isolated by itself. An outside track is moved around by dice throw. This causes various gains and losses and allows for drilling. On each turn a player may buy a piece of property - with from 1 to 6 well sites - for $100,000 a well (start with $1,000,000). Collect on each producing well, by throwing two dice and reading a table, each time the player brings in a new well and when reach a space on the path. Most money is when 25 (or for a longer game - 30) wells have been hit, is the winner.
BREAK THE HOUSE. Board game where each of from 1 to 4 players owns his own casino (part of the board). When land on another's casino play simplified CRAPS, BLACKJACK, or ROULETTE. Player landing on own casino plays KENO with all the others. When own player's casino is busted, most money wins.
