10 MONDAY-DECEMBER1973
344TH DAY-21 DAYS TO COME

Call from Claude Felicia. She still hasn't rcd. her check from
Hallmark. Offered to loan her the money till it came but
she said she'd manage.
She didn't hear anything from Kohner and we both agreed that
it is a lost cause. I said that we should show the revised
SHAPE & SHATTER to Bob Johnson. It is definitely a "fun"
game now.
She hasn't spoken to Stan Harfenist but she has spoken to Karen
and it will be some time before Stan can look at SPACE (3D BOXES).
We agreed that we'd just as soon have Hallmark
look at it first.
Card from Martin Gardner. The book he mentioned (see 12/6)
was THE THEORY OF GAMBLING & STATISTICAL LOGIC by Richard
A. Epstein (not Bernstein)-Academic Press, 1967.
Working on S&T (#42) column. Wrote up NEXUS, MUFKI-PUFKI,
BROKEN ENGLISH, FAIR SHAKE, and started
SCARNE'S ENCYCLOPEDIA OF GAMES. In connection with this dis-
covered- and mention- that HASAMI SHOGI was taken directly
from Bell's BOARD AND TABLE GAMES FROM MANY CIVILIZATIONS.
At a bazaar BB bought a card with 6 animals and a fence.

"balance" at the same time- so that it doesn't tilt.
At Alexanders saw WORD-O-MATIC (Aldon Accessories Ltd.). There are
5 windows showing letters. The first one shows two vowels. The
[drawing] others show consonents- except that a U is
given with a Q. The players all try to
make words with the letters that come up at the windows (can
[illegible strikeout] a letter that shows be used more than once?). (Fairly com-
plete idea.) (I thought that this was the game Claude told me about on
11/30- but that one Claude said was called THINK TANK.
At A.&F. saw HOLIDAY. Saw SAPO- "The Game of the Frog. "This is a South Am-
erican game, they say. There is a large wooden cabinet, with a
figure of a frog with its mouth open in the center of the top. Around it
are openings that connect to pockets [illegible strikeout] lower down on the front. The
object, they say is to throw coins into the frog's mouth. It sells for $800.
At Macy's saw VEGAS, some kind of a gambling game by M.B. I'll get
the details from Mickie Mackay.
Also saw INSTANT DECISION (Skor-Mor). There are 4 cubes, [illegible strikeout] the
edges made of rods in four different colors. The cubes fit inside each
other and a stepped platform centers them. Object is to place them
together so that there is one of each color at each edge.
To "Gamut of Games" to give Phil the rules for END OF THE LINE and
SUPERGHOSTS. No one there.
To S.P.I. Told Redmund that I'd bring my column tomorrow.
