5 WEDNESDAY * DECEMBER 1973
339TH DAY * 26 DAYS TO COME

To Brenatno's abt. 11:30. Bob Gellman not there. Dorothy Shapiro
called Bill Tyler about her not knowing being informed about
the demonstration. Bill's assistant - Larry? - came down and said
the president of Brentano's yesterday walked thru the store
and blew his top over the demonstrations going on, and said no
more demonstrations until after X'Mas. Went upstairs to Larry's
office and called Bob Gellman. Not in and then he came there as
I finished. He was mad about the demomstration being cancelled
without be our [being] notified, but Larry didn't take any heed
of him.
Bob wanted to talk to Bill Tyler - "to say hello" - but he was in conference.
Bob invited me to lunch and I suggested "Chock-Full-of-Nuts".
After we ate Bob asked if I minded going "dutch". No.
Back to wait for Tyler. Bob told me that he wants the artist
to start working on the MACARTHUR box and he has to have the
battles we will use. Told him I'd have it by 12/17 and he'll call me
then.
Bob said that he'd like me to look at a game he is
considering putting into bookshelf format - together with
PATTON, MACARTHUR, & a gambling game - possible name
GRAND CASINO. It is a CHESS variant played with cards to
determine which pc. must be moved, named NOVINKA. It
was brought to Bob by the one who wrote Bobby Fisher's [Fischer]
biography. I told Bob that I knew of another similar game
(CHESS WITHOUT TEARS). He wanted me to tell him all the
details but I said I'd contact Gary Sherbell to contact him.
I also told him that no CHESS variant had ever sold
and said the check, which he'll send in about 2 weeks, will
be for about $1,600.
Got tired of waiting for Bill Tyler and went down to game dept.
Looked at games: Skor-Mor: - 5IVE STRAIGHT; this is
