28 FRIDAY * SEPTEMBER 1973
271ST DAY - 94 DAYS TO COME

Made a new set for SLIDEWORD. It doesn't slide well with two pcs. blank spaces. Used a blank pc. which could be moved from its position to the empty space as one move. Then decided to allow moving any tile to the empty space - once during the player's turn. Finally decided to allow a tile to be moved into the empty space from the position diagonally adjacent to the space - as many times as the player wishes.

Called Phil Orbanes. I'll bring the three word games Monday. Djoli will be there and Phil said he had something for me from Paris. (From Pierre no doubt.)Phil says that Djoli is seems to be taking the effort to remove him from management fairly well. Phil is letting others (who?) do most of the talking. Djoli will still be getting - Phil estimates - some $15,000 in royalties yearly for royalties for BRIDGETTE, MY WORD!, MONTAGE, and the new set of classic games - TABLUT, etc. Royalties for the classic games to compensate Djoli for giving up a salary was Phil's idea, even if tho Phil did as much work on them.
Phil said that except for the original five p & p games he will have to collect royalties from me for "Gamut of Games". He said that it wouldn't be more that 10%. I said that I certainly don't object, even if it is a little bit more that 10%.
I mentioned that I saw some Hoi Polloi and Mag-Nif games in Sears catalog, but not the p & p games or the "Gamut" games. He said that the games are being sold in stores, but they don't put things in the catalog until they've been around awhile.
Phil mentioned that I was lucky that ACQUIRE stays steady for so long. Hoi Polloi things usually last only a few years.

Played TOGETHERNESS with Dave Horn and we both found it pleasant. Dave noticed the 3M GO game. [Illegible strikeout] Taught him the rules and played a game. Clobbered him.

from a personal set of the 28 cards. It is simply a matter of elimination, rather than deduction. (Rough idea.)
Talked to Felicia about THE 31ST HEX and PUSHOVER. She called Burt Huber and he said that he still hadn't rcd. [received] them. There is no particular hurry with making new models. I asked him if he had any questions on my HONORABLE RELATIONS revisions. No problems.

Back to "Gamut of Games". Djoli there and I thanked him for bringing TILT and ECOPLAY. He said that I could have MACADAM, and I said that of course if Phil wants to see the board again I will bring it.
Djoli and Piere played a lot of pin ball machines in Paris. An electronic ping-pong game called PONG, played on a video screen, is very popular in Paris.
Djoli got together with Graeme Levin in Paris. Graeme is
