Rcd. [received] a notice to pay NOST due (to continue receiving NOST-ALGIA.
Rcd. [received] a card from Sears that5 the shelving I ordered was waiting for me in New Rochelle.

Call from Felicia. She discovered that a 2-year period was not entered on Claude's DUEL contract. She'll be calling Burt Huber and will tell him that she is sending THE 31ST HEX: and PUSHOVER in about 2 weeks.
She is still disturbed that S & R has run out of BALI, altho they are also out of many of their other games. They tell her that business is suddenly so good that they were caught short.

Looked in phone book for "Greenwood Publishing" but couldn't find it to call about the JOURNAL OF RECREATIONAL MATHEMATICS. Called Martin Gardner and he told me that the journal had been taken over by {Baywood Publishing Co.

He saw the game WEDDING BELLS (see 5/14) at another antique show - still for $14.00. He looked at the rules a little and said it was purely moving around the edge of the board. It is in good condition and seems to be complete.
He rcd. [received] a set of 30 CUBES from Frank Armbruster. The box has no printing on it and the rules have a lot of typographic errors. Martin included THE TOWER GAME and 8 BLOCKS TO MADNESS in the rules.
He is writing a column on "star patterns", the smallest of which is as shown.

He wondered if I knew anything about the history of CHINESE CHECKERS. I told him that I was pretty sure that I didn't have any info but that I would check.
Later found references in CULBERTSON'S HOYLE that CHINESE CHECKERS became popular in the 1930's. Couldn't find any further info.
Martin got the idea for the column from a urinal. He told me of two catalogs of mathematical equipment and games that he rcd. [received] {Creative Publications

The first one lists cubes in different colors that can be snapped together to form "poly blocks". They are sold in quantities of 500 or more.
