Rcd. a notice to pay NOST due (to continue receiving
NOST-ALGIA.
Rcd. a card from Sears that5 the shelving I ordered was
waiting for me in New Rochelle.
Call from Felicia. She discovered that a 2-year period was
not entered on Claude's DUEL contract. She'll be calling
Burt Huber and will tell him that she is sending
THE 31ST HEX: and PUSHOVER in about 2 weeks.
She is still disturbed that S & R has run out of BALI, altho
they are also out of many of their other games.
They tell her that business is suddenly so good that they
were caught short.
Looked in phone book for "Greenwood Publishing" but
couldn't find it to call about the JOURNAL OF RECREATIONAL MATHEMATICS.
Called Martin Gardner and he told me that the journal had
been taken over by

He saw the game WEDDING BELLS (see 5/14) at another
antique show - still for $14.00. He looked at the rules
a little and said it was purely moving around the
edge of the board. It is in good condition and seems
to be complete.
He rcd. a set of 30 CUBES from Frank Armbruster. The
box has no printing on it and the rules have a lot
of typographic errors. Martin included THE TOWER GAME
and 8 BLOCKS TO MADNESS in the rules.
He is writing a column on "star patterns", the
smallest of which is as shown.
[Small diagram of 13 circles arranged in a 1-4-3-4-1 alignment (similar to a Star of David).]
He wondered if I knew anything about the history of
CHINESE CHECKERS. I told him that I was pretty
sure that I didn't have any info but that I would check.
Later found references in CULBERTSON'S HOYLE that CHINESE CHECKERS became
popular in the 1930'2. Couldn't find any further info.
Martin got the idea for the column from a urinal.
He told me of two catalogs of mathematical equipment and
games that he rcd.
