30 THURSDAY- AUGUST 1973
242ND DAY-123 DAYS TO COME

Call from Felicia. She is going to be talking for Bob Johnson
and wanted to know when I'd be ready with THE 31ST HEX
and PUSHOVER (which I told her only Schaper and MB had
seen). Told her in about 2 weeks.
Told Felicia that I had told Claude about the speci-
fications for the puzzle-games. Also that I wasn't
telling anyone else.
2nd call. She rcd. the checks for from Hallmark-only
the originally agreed on $1000 for my 5 games (RED LETTER,
ANOTHER, DIGIT, PE-LING, TROMINO GO), and the contracts
that have to be re-signed. I'll go there next Tuesday at 2:30.
I'll also tell Claude about it.
Call from Phil Orbanes. He has a date next week with Carl
Eisenberg
to go over the next batch of p&p games.
He has ideas for two new game- PROPERTY LAND BARON, and WINDFALL.
[illegible strikeout] Made date to come there to look at them tomorrow.
He saw the figures on sales of CHINESECHEK, DAM-IT!, NINETACTOE,
VEGAS 13, and WORDPLAY and it looks as if we'll each get about
$650 (in addition to the $250 we rcd. for an advance). The
third third, he days, should be do from from 5 to 10 times
better than the second.
He started asking me about the Dynamic Design games and I told
him that there were some real dogs- like WINE CELLAR- and
the best on is AIRPORT. He said that his reasons for asking
were confidential. I surmised that Dynamic is trying to sell
out. He confirmed this. Reiss and Hoi Polloi are subsidiaries
of National Paragon, which is an old weaving (I believe) com-
pany with a lot of spare cash to move into other fields. Bob
Reiss is supposed to move up in the management of Paragon-
since the top people there are old.
If Hoi Polloi takes over Dynamic Design the new line will be in
direct competition with the "Gamut of Games" line. Hoi Polloi was
supposed to eventually take over "Gamut of Games" and taking over
of Dynamic will probably hasten this. If the Dynamic management
is not kept this will all be good for Phil - and for me. If they
are kept it may not be so good.
Told Phil that Hansen had a game LAND BARON.
Called Mike Alber. Not in but got the list prices for BILLIONAIRE,
GRAPPLE, BOGGLE, FLUSTER, from Ken.
Called Zeke Rose. Not in but got the list prices for DEAR ABBY
and AUCTIONEER from him another guy. I asked about REWORD and MATOCA.
He'll have Zeke call me when he gets back from vacation. Zeke
called me sometime next week and said he'd look into it.
Dad completed his translation of HEY GERAM'S WERELD SCHAAKSPEK,
HANDLEIDING VOOR HET "NOVO-SCHAAKSPEL", NEO-SCHAKK, & TRIO.
I took them back with me.
