Call from Bob Gellman. He'd like to reduce the size of the PATTON board between 20 to 30% to fit in a "bookshelf" box. The only problem is whether the cities will be too close together for the pieces. He'll be sending me some copies in a week or so and I'll check it.
He will probably want me to start on MACARTHUR in another month or so, but he'll let me know.
I asked how the games were moving. PATTON is doing well by R.G.I. standards. HOLIDAY is not doing too well.
He had another call on another line and I asked him to call me back when he has a chance.

Called Mike Alber to thanking him for the 9/24 invite, and to tell him we'd be there.

Long call from Claude. He'd like to have a NYGA meeting, and suggested 8/31. Told him I'd try to set one up.

book GAMES WITH PENCIL & PAPER. The field (I believe) is 9x9. 4 play - the one who makes the rule and three others, known as A, B, and C. The rule states where A's, B's, and C's can be placed. (Two samples - 1) Any letter can be placed a knight's move away from the last placed letter. 2) The letters are arranged in a spiral.) Players in turn ask if they can put their letter in a specific space. If yes they do so and score one point on a scoring area on their side of the "board." The designer scores one point for each question - whether right or wrong, up to a certain maximum after which the score drops off one point for each question until a player guesses the rule.
Bob's publisher wrote the publisher of GAMES WITH PENCIL & PAPER asking them to remove ELEUSIS.
Played KGB. The first game was over very quickly when Earl made a wrong accusation. Played a second game which Earl won by catching Bob.
Played NETRESULTS, three sets of two partners. Bob Felice and another fellow wanted to join us. Felice was my partner and disappeared soon after the start. Earl and Bob Abbott ran away with the game. I did as well as Claude and his partner.
While taking it apart Early broke a couple of the connectors & I was quite annoyed.
Claude found a copy of the "Potamac" section of the WASHINGTON POST with an article "All the War Games, Great and Small - Every Man a General." Mainly about A.H. but mentions S&T. Also the games CHICAGO, CHICAGO and UP AGAINST THE WALL-MOTHER FUCKER, without saying where they
