5 Sunday - August 1973
Eighth Sunday after Pentecost - 217th day - 148 days to come
Played INVESTIGATION with BB and goofed in guessing her layout. Played SPACE STATIONS and she beat me twice. Played END OF THE LINE and I believe that I won.
Call from Earl Perel. He got some kind of correspondence from
some Japanese game companies. He wanted to discuss his
answer to them but I wasn't too enthusiastic.
Made date for him to come for supper Tuesday.
Boxed EVEN WORSE and wrote the rules. But didn't include a solution.
Ordered the following books from "Publishers Central Bureau":- TEST YOUR LOGIC, 101 PUZZLES IN THOUGHT AND LOGIC, GEOMETIC DISSECTIONS, and MATHEMATICS, MAGIC AND MYSTERY. (Total cost - $7.45.)

doesn't seem to be any problem with symmetrical play
leading to ties. Of course it can be done deliberately by
the 2nd player, but it doesn't seem to come naturally.
Phil has a p&p game he calls OUT-OF-SPACE. Each of 2
players has a set of the 12 pentominoes printed. These
are placed on an 11x11 field divided into 7 irregular spaces.
Object is to get a majority in as many fields as possible.
I suggested the following and Phil agreed. Score one point
for each space won and one point for being the last to
place a pentomino. In case of a tie, the 2nd player wins-
since the first player is ahead in placing pentominoes. Also
when one player can't place further pentominoes the other
can continue with as many, if any, that he can find
room for. (Took one of the sheets.) Variation of PENTOMINOS.
After the testers left discussed the situation with Phil.
The 2nd batch of p&p games will be contracted directly
with us. After this they will all come thru "Gamut of Games."
Phil's contract with "Gamut" gives them 25% of anything
he sells while he works for them. He'll have to discuss it with
Djoli but he sees me giving 10% maximum as an agent fee
to "Gamut."
Eventually Reiss wants to buy out "Gamut." When this happens
Phil will leave "Gamut" and set up Infinity-Quest as a
developer of product for Reiss. Phil thinks that between
the two of us we should be able to keep them supplied.
Gave Phil the three puzzles - SKYSCRAPERS, GROOVE, and
EVEN WORSE. He is not positive that Reiss and Mag-Nif
will be breaking off, but if they do Phil thinks Carl will
like these puzzles.
I asked about Infinity-Quest taking a cut from my puzzles.
He said "no, he is content to let it lie dormant for the
