25 Wednesday - July 1973
St. James Apostle - 206th day - 159 days to come
Rcd. [received] a letter from Tom Atwater. He rcd. HIT THE JACKPOT and it has
already been rejected by Parker (the hush-hush company). He'd
like to try it elsewhere.
Also sent a check for $10.31 and a statement covering TEMPO,
ODD OR EVEN, INTERPLAY, and TRANSFORMATION.
Call from Phil Orbanes. He mentioned: CROSSFIRE and the
preferred name MISSING LINKS. He tried it with the four corner
spaces missing and it can result in ties. Now he figures on
having it played identically with HEX, except that there are circles
that will be connected by lines; PAYOFF- he asked me what we had
agreed on as payoff values. Told him that I thought we had agreed to
eliminate them (making the name a little inaccurate); TRIVIA;
POWER NETWORK - suggested the name EXPOSE; SPRINT - suggested
the name RALLY; SPACE STATIONS; LAPS; COMBINATIONS.
Phil has a date set up with Carl Eisenberg and their wives to
test the games Friday.
He asked if I could come down to do some testing and I arranged to
do it today.
To Simulations. Got 4 copies of MOVES number 8. Also got the letter
on the card GAME that Dale and Phil told me about on 7/18.
Redmund told me that they had bounced my column from S&T #39
because of lack of room. At first I thought he was fooling - then
I was upset. Wanted to speak to Jim Dunnigan but he was out to lunch.
To Felicia with 3D BOXES. She called George Delaney (twice) and at
first he didn't seem too interested. She said that maybe we'd
show it to M.B. Then George said bring it to Karen. Stan Harfenist
will look at it, probably Friday, and then send it to George.
I forgot to bring the contract form that Bob Gellman gave me for
PATTON.
Looked at THE BRAIN GAME and INVASION and they are in pretty good
shape. Also TRAVELINE in good shape. Hallmark may be interested
in THE BRAIN GAME sometime in the future. She'll show
TRAVELINE to MB.
She asked me to check on who had seen PUSHOVER. (Later found only
MB and Schaper.)
Took home TANGLED WEB (everyone's seen it). I'll take some others
next time I'm there.
She said that Crisloid is interested in seeing CHESS WITHOUT TEARS. She
wants me to get a cut for the name. She suggested 2% (40% of
5%). I said the 15% of the 5% would be more than ample.
To "Gamut of Games." Nick there. Played LANDGRAB but didn't quite
finish it. Phil thought that it would look better to have the
central field offset. Nick and I pointed out that it would
make it hard to use my scoring system.
Talked about LAPS. They want a rule that a player can't move
backward. I said it would be difficult to determine back-
