4 WEDNESDAY-JULY 1973
INDEPENDENCE DAY-185TH DAY-180 DAYS TO COME

Played 3D BOXES with BB. She went first both times, but I beet [beat] her soundly both times.

Caught up with game diary-since before the trip - not all today, though.

Though of three p&p GAME ideas.
1) Tentative name, POWER NETWORK. 5x5 board is filled in as shown with lines.

[drawing of 5x5 board]

Players in turn choose a square and ask how many lines are in that square. Object is to be first to determine exact layout of opponent's setup.
2) On a 4x4 board each player fills in the numbers from 1 to 16. Players in turn ask for the sum of two boxes next to each other, including diagonally. Object to be first to determine exact layout of opponent's setup.
Another possibility, use numbers 1 to 8 twice. Can get sum of four squares meeting at a corner or of any row on column.
3) Tentative name LAP5. A "racetrack" is layed out with numbers in the spaces from 1 to 17 (18 not being used). A player throws 3 dice and moves to adjacent spaces corresponding to 1, 2, or 3 dice.

Call from Wald. He wanted info on how to go about publicizing a "Toy Computer" idea that someone he knows has published. I asked, and there is no further word on BALANCE OF POWER.

Call from Claude. On his recent trip to Philadelphia he bought $6.00 worth of small plastic pieces in different colors at about 2₵ each. I can have half of them.

Gave a copy of AGOG to Susan Horn, in appreciation for her SPECTRUM idea.
Played 3D BOXES with Dave Horn and it was a very tight game. He said he prefers my original rules.

Tried to call Tom Atwater at about 11:30 p.m. to ask about HIT THE JACKPOT. No answer after 8 rings.
