18 FRIDAY - MAY 1973
138TH DAY - 227 DAYS TO COME

Call from Arthur. Told him what I was involved in and said that I hoped to be able to go to visit in about 2 weeks.

Rcd. [received] G&P #13. Contains article on FORMULA 1, CAR ROM, YAHTZEE, FINDERS KEEPERS, ECOLOGY, A GAMUT OF GAMES, THE COMPLETE STRATEGYST, PENTOMINOES, DODGEM (In puzzle section). Also had an ad for a book SOLO-WARGAMING, by Donald Featherstone, and another book ad for GAMES WITH PENCIL & PAPER by Eric Solomon. It lists some of the games as ELEUSIS, SPROUTS, CRYSTALS, GO MOKU, & SUBTERFUGE.
Rcd. [received] PLAYTHINGS (May). Showcase had a piece on CHECK-FOUR. Sent reader service card on 5/23.
Rcd. [received] a card saying I wasn't accepted for "What's My Line." (In Playthings saw that Ed Parker was on the program.)

Playing around with JACK POTS and decided that my idea of 5/15 and 5/17 wasn't right. Thinking then of having each player have a number of circles on his mover - from 1 to 3 - and also have circles on the board spaces. Move total of the 2, casting out 3's. Couldn't get a setup that would allow all players to reach all spaces, using 3 rows of 4 with arrows joining the spaces, as shown.

Then decided to have the players just move
one space at a time. Played with BB,
each using 2 movers. It played quite
well. Used white chips worth 1 for first
jackpot. Then red worth 2 for second
and blue worth 4 for third. (originally
had still another jackpot but that was
much too long. Didn't have a termina-
ting factor and then decided to play until

When the a third jackpot was hit that space was eliminated
and player could move right thru. This didn't work out. Later
thought of playing until all the first and second jackpots were
[drawing of board with a number 4 in it] hit and then play until a set number of third jackpots
were hit.
Incidentally I made a board as shown above with
each space divided as shown below.
