4 WEDNESDAY - APRIL 1973
94TH DAY - 271 DAYS TO COME

To Felicia's. Told her about Bill Tyler's giving my name to two people
(See 3/30 & 4/3)
She showed me a new "toy" by Bailey, called CHALLENGER IV. It is a
[drawing of a cylinder] transparent cylinder with cups mounted on the inside at
each end. A metal ball is also enclosed. The object is to
turn the cylinder over so that the ball drops from cup
to cup, and count the number of times in succession you
do it.
American Greetings is returning all the rules they took (see 2/28)
except for ESCAPE. Felicia called them. They'll give their reasons
in a letter with the rules. Mine are FOREIGN INTRIGUE, PAIR OFF, and
OVER 'N OVER.
Felicia would like to have FOREIGN INTRIGUE, PUSHOVER, and FREE FORM in
her office, the latter two in case Bill Garrity comes in suddenly.
Told her I'd bring them next time I come in.
Felicia showed me BREAKDOWN (I'm pretty sure that's the name)
which was previously LOG JAM. There is an inclined plane
with holes for receiving gears. Once a player's gear chain is complete
he places a figure of his "mechanic" on his top gear and
tries to work it to the bottom by turning the gears, using
a handle on one gear. If the figure falls off it must start at
the top again. Win by getting figure to the bottom first.
With Felicia to see Stanley Harfenist of Lakeside. He looked
at the following and didn't want any of them: UPSTAGE,
TRAVELINE, CHALLENGER IV, BREAKDOWN, PAIR OFF, WILD WOOD PILE
,
LOTTERY.
He said he wants things that are twists on known games. I
asked how about TRAVELINE? Not gimmicky enough for TV.
He said he had an idea that 3D BOXES would be a good
game for them. He had his own people work on it but it looks
too much like a "tinker toy." Also they can,t figure out how to
identify a box when won. Thought of an idea for hooking
[drawing] a ball over two pcs horizontal pcs. Later told Felicia that
I had ideas and thought I could do it. Harfenist said that
he would hold the line open until the end of April for the game.
Back at Felicia's looked at WAR GAME (see 3/28) again. When
I told her it is probably more of a fun game than a strategy
game she said she'd send for the model.
Took the following things with me:- LE JEU DU 420 (which Odette
Willis
said to give me when she said goodbye to Felicia - returning
to France. She said that Vittet would be sending me the material
for 4 to play L'ANNEAU ENCHANTE DE TOM TIT.); UPSTAGE to return to
Claude; FORMATION - Jim Scully's; MARLBORO COUNTRY - we won't show
it anymore - possibly I can improve the mechanism. Was going
to take WILD WOOD PILE too, since it has been just about every-
where, but didn't have room.
Felicia called Leonard Willett on some business and I spoke to him about
Dale not being a dependent any more. I'll call him tomorrow.
