14 Wednesday - March 1973 73rd Day - 292 Days to Come
Rcd. [received] THE GAMESLETTER #52. Had a listing of DIPLOMACY vari- ants that are available (but some are in short supply) and the price: - ANARCHY I, ANARCHY II, ANONYMITY, CHAOS, ECONOMIC I, ECONOMIC II, FOUNDATION GAME, HYPERECONOMIC I, HYPERSPACE II, INDIANOMACY II, LEBLING VARIANT, MICRODIPLOMACY, MIDDLE-EARTH II, MILLER 9-MAN GAME, MORDOR-VS-THE WORLD I, MORDOR-VS-THE WORLD II, MORDOR-VS-THE-WORLD IV, MYTHOMACY I, 3x3 TEAM, PARA-TIME I, 3x3 TEAM W/WILD-CARD PLAYER, 3x3 TEAM W/WILD CARD II, SCOTICE SCRIPTI II, MIDDLE-EARTH IV, SCOTTOMACY (GAME OF THE CLANS).
Also had a review of a new magazine XENOGOGIC VI - "A Gaming and Simulations Quarterly" which looks interesting. Mentions THE PENTAGON GAME, which probably is not a real game.
Wrote to Don Miller asking him to send me any of the variants that are available, except for MORDOR-VS-THE-WORLD and SCOTTOMACY (GAME OF THE CLANS) - which I got from Don Turnbull. Told him to take it out of my credit. Also TRIPPPLES lists for $8. Don advertised for "S&T Test Series Games." Asked him to let me know which titles he wants and I'll send them.
Rcd. [received] PANZERFAUST #57. Advertisement for Guidon Games' ATLANTA. Also SICILY, SPIRIT OF '76, and BATTLE OF BRITAIN. Also Cavalier Wargames' DESERT FOX.
Had an idea for a p&p type GAME. There is a grid, possibly about 16x16, At one end a number of squares are marked with dif- ferent numbers. Then a number of squares are blacked in by the players. Players start at the end opposite from the numbers. They move by knight's move, crossing out each space visited. Players score for numbers they reach. Possible rule: - a player may not score for a lower number after scoring a higher one.
Phil Orbanes called and I gave him my comments on the INFINITY rules. He'll rewrite them and have them ready to go over on Friday. I spent the morning going over INFINITY.
Rcd. [received] a package from ideal with 4 games: - DEAR ABBY, SNAP JUDGEMENT, AUCTIONEER, TRAP.
Remembered that Zeke Rose had told me about Ideal taking over Alabe (see 1-16). I'll have to contact him about REWORD, BIG DEALER, and MATOCA (see 2/26).
Wrote the rules for OVER 'N OVER.
Called James Faulkner (see 3/12). Told him that I couldn't allow
my name and picture on his games, nor the games from AGOG
that I did myself. Told him NETWORK, PAPER BOXING, etc. Told him
that I had written to Lech & Jim about LAP and SKEDOODLE. Told him
I had other GAMES that would fit his format that he could use
anonymously. He still wants to use PLANK in the series next year
with PIPS. He'll think it over and write with his plans.
