12 Monday - March 1973
71st Day - 294 Days to Come
- Call from Alice McElhone. She bought three copies of AGOG
as gifts and would like me to autograph them. She'll stop by this
coming Thursday on her way back to Connecticut.
Her brother thinks it may be made into a TV game. I told her that
TV can look promising and then fall thru [through]. Also Pan Am may have them on
board.
Bob Champer called. He's very enthused about working on PATTON
with me, and happy with the 25% I offered. We'll get
together Friday morning at 9:30 to start working.
In the book I read that Patton wasn't at Kasserine Pass,
which Bob knew. We discussed Patton's battles and decided on
"Cicily" and "The Bulge" as small games and "France" as a
big one, using one side of a hinged board,
Called Bob Gellman and told him about the idea of using 3,
instead of 4 games and a hinged board. Fine. I told him that
I [illegible word crossed out] was cutting in someone else to make the game authentic.
He liked that.
He discussed some ideas he had for themes for GAMES for
1974. "Dieting"—Told him that another company was coming out
with one (D.D.I's THE DIET GAME - see '72). He said that as
long as it wasn't Parker [Parker Brothers], Milton Bradley, or S&R [Selchow and Righter] he wasn't
worried. I said that the only way it might make a success is
if it were tied in to a fad diet. Bob said that he never wants
to drop a game once he comes out with it, so doesn't want to
tie in with a fad.
"Ratrace"—told him it had been done, by the name RATRACE
and others like CLASS. But I could probably come up with a
game on that theme with more play value.
"Time Travel"— Told him that science fiction games had always
bombed, but that may be if the game could take advantage
of some of the current interest in archeology [archaeology] it might go. His
idea is to collect artifacts from the past and future.
We'll talk at more length on these things in a few months.
I asked again about an advance on PATTON. He'll check with his new partners.
Call from Felicia. She had a letter from a new gal at D.D.I. They are
returning WILD WOOD PILE.
She is mad at Keith Tuggle. She told him that she wouldn't send
INVASION, TRY-ANGLES, and QUADRUME until he sent her some
disclosure forms, but he never sent them. She sent the three games
by U.P.S. anyway.
She is also mad at Bob Johnson for not giving us any report
on IMPULSE and SPACE STIX. She asked if should call him and
I said no,
Playing around with ROUND 'N ROUND OVER 'N OVER Solitaire and am almost
positive that it can be solved from any position and without
using the dotted lines.
Lengthy long distance call from James Faulkner. He is putting out a "Loose Leaf Game Series" which will consist of folded sheet
(cont. on 3/11)
