21 WEDNESDAY * FEBRUARY 1973 313 DAYS TO COME


Downtown to Felicia's at 9. Bill Garrity postponed his visit till 12:30. Went to
register at Toy Fair Press Room. Then to I went to Ideal. Met Zeke Rose
coming in. He took me in and showed me some new action games. Nothing new
in my type of game. He'll send me AUCTIONEER, TRAP, and DEAR ABBY.
To G.A.F. but they weren't set up yet.
To Schaper. Spoke to Harvey Shoemack, the P.R. man. He showed me
'OPTILE. Players in turn throw 2 dice and cover their board with tiles
of different shapes which are identified by number, one for each
die. The value is the number. Spaces with a "D" double the tile. A
"T" triple the tile. When a player gets a double he draws a card
which gives different kinds of priviledges. Cards can [be?] kept for
future use. As soon as 1 player fills his card the game is over. Each
player scores for his tiles, and those not finished lose 1 point for
each unfilled space. (This was made up by 2 housewife's.)
He introduced me to Phil Stern, 200 e 27TH (683-3562) who is the
inventor of MONEY CARD (which I previously listed as
AMERICAN EXPRESS MONEY CARD GAME). It was a simple race-type
game with the object of visiting 8 cities. INTERPLAY is brought
about by cards that tell you to visit another player or bring him
to visit you. Also there is "bumping."
Got a catalog, glossies, price list. Shoemack will send review copies.
Back to Felicia. While waiting for Dick Harris I took down the
equipment layout for PUSHOVER which I hadn't noted
before (I think).

Dick Harris in. I asked if he had rcd. the error
I found in SUMMIT. Yes, but SUMMIT is being dropped.
Felicia showed him : -
GAME IN HAND - too much like.
PSYCHOLOGICAL BLOCKS - too subjective. (The
scoring is one point to the player who guesses
the theme - out of three - the builder used. The
builder gets one point for each who guessed right.)
PUSHOVER - No because of Bailey's MOSAICS, which Harris had seen.
We told Dick Harris about the coincidence.
HABITAT - Just another "cube" puzzle.
UPSTAGE - Not fun. Played a full game.
AVARICE & TRIAD - Last year Dick told Felicia to hold them for
Marshall Lewis to look at. Since Lucas never came in, she should show it elsewhere.
CLUE-WORDS - At first it wasn't competitive enough. They thought
of the possibility of making it a cooperative game between two players,
similar to PASSWORD. He wants Felicia to send it. (Or maybe he took it.)
PDQ - This came up in the conversation. A word is chosen and scrambled.
The contestant tries to guess the word. Can pick a letter which

THE BRAIN GAME - looks like a good game, but too adult for them.
QUICKSAND - Not as good as CLUE-WORDS.
FREE FORM - Too abstract. Played and it was over fast.
FOREIGN INTRIGUE - Don't remember his rejection comment.
