29 MONDAY - JANUARY 1973
29TH DAY - 336 DAYS TO COME

Rcd. a card stating that the person "formerly" known as
Joel Gaines is now "formally" Prince Djoli Kansil.

Played 2-hand THE BRAIN GAME with BB. Played well even with 2 .
The ending was a little slow with buying permitted only with a double.
And with a high number it was too much money. Later thought of
allowing buying with any total up to 12. With a 13 or higher a player
may not buy. When only 1 player has 4 cards left, 4 more
throws should be plenty.

(cont. from 2/25) [2/26]

Picked up a copy of TOY FAIR WORLD (Feb. 25, 1973). Alabe has
3 new games - REWORD, BIG DEALER, and MAT OCA. (Didn't see
this until Fair was over. I'll have to go to suite 1005 at 200 5th
to look at it.)
Picked up TOY TRADE NEWS (Sunday, Feb. 25, 1973). Mentions
R.G.I./Athol Game Co. and HOLIDAY, MOVIE MOGULS, & PATTON.

To 3M room and while waiting for Keith on the phone took
two copies of the catalog (which I later discovered was the
same as last year's). Upstairs to Keith. Showed him HABITAT. He thought
it was attractive, but wondered if more than one solution might
be preferable. They have three solutions for HECTIX. He
took it with him.
Played part of a game of THE BRAIN GAME and he liked it
a lot. Took the box and I'll send the rules. (Signed a
disclosure form for the two of them.)
They are going to put GO in a "classic" bookshelf and I
believe BACKGAMMON too. He asked my opinion of games
that they could put up in "do-it-yourself" form. They
thought of CHESS and I added BACKGAMMON, but there
probably aren't any others that people would bother with. I told
him about the flop of GAME INVENTOR' S KIT.
They are thinking of a line of p & p games - a shrink wrapped
pad - to sell under $1. They wondered if the games in AGOG
were in public domain. I told him they are now mine but
and are covered by copyright. They would rather not pay
royalties but will if they have to. I told him that I had
worked on p & p. games for another (unnamed) company and
that I had a contractual prohibition from sellig p & p
games to other companies. I couldn't do anything for 3M under
my own name. I told him about my small-equipment games,
such as TAKE-A-WORD and SUPER-TAC-TOE. Made a date for
8:15 for breakfast on Wednesday to talk about it more.
Keith said that they keep hearing rumors about Hallmark and
asked if I had anything with them and are they coming out?
I said that I had two which are supposed to for stationery
show but I've been disappointed before.
