14 THURSDAY - DECEMBER 1972
349TH DAY - 17 DAYS TO COME
To Simulations. In backroom checked on the parts I thought were missing from two games. They were not separate. Took a boxed copy of STRATEGY 1 and QUEBEC 1759.
Spoke to Al Nofi and he gave me a copy of THE GENERAL (Vol. 9 - No. 9 ) with the Xerox picture of me and GETTYSBURG and ORIGINS OF WORLD WAR II.
Al mentioned that CONFLICT Magazine has gotten some new financing and is continuing. The centerfold game for issue no. 3 in Alister MacIntyre's ASSASSIN! MacIntyre had offered it to S&T[Strategy and Tactics].
Al gave me a copy of OUTDOOR SURVIVAL. A.H. loused up Jim's original game.
In back room also get 5 copies of SET no. 35. The centerfold game is YEAR OF THE RAT. There are ads for the following boxed games: WILDERNESS CAMPAIGN (Bob Champer said that Phil Orbane's [Orbanes'] original idea was much better but Jim D. wouldn't even look at it), AMERICAN REVOLUTION, 1918, RED STAR - WHITE STAR, 1812, SOLDIERS, LA GRANDE ARMÉE, FRANCO-PRUSSIAN WAR, THE MARNE, BREAKOUT & PURSUIT, FRANCE, 1940.
Dale gave a letter sent to [illegible word crossed out] Simulations, but to me, from Walter Dykoski. About STRATO TAC-TICS, STRATO CHECKERS & spoke to Red[Redmond A. Simonsen?]. The week after X-Mas [Christmas] will be o.k. for my next column.
To Gamut of Games where Phil ordered lunch sent up for us. Gave him a copy of SET no.35. Played [illegible word crossed out] two of the REALM mini-games, for the "Ancient version played with the starting arrangement as shown, [a drawing of a square board divided into 4 rows and 4 columns of smaller squares. Each square has a circle in the center alternating between white and black, beginning with white in rows 1 and 2, and beginning with black in rows 3 and 4.] Then tried a variation with each player choosing one space at a time. Both ways were O.K.
Played the "20th Century" versionand I sug- gested the following to clean up the rules. "A counter- agent freezes all enemy activity in a realm." Phil had allowed an enemy piece to enter. (I won all the games.)
