329TH DAY - 37 DAYS TO COME

With BB to Harrod's book store. Nothing.
At Peter Jones Dept. Store saw WANTED. There are cards with pictures of "wanted" men (or are there women too?). One of these is shown for a set time and then turned over. Using stencils for various parts of the face, each player tries to reconstruct the face. Score for correct parts.

In an antique arcade on the King's Road saw a book for $7.00 which I thought Martin Gardner might like. Took the name of the book- RATIONAL RECREATIONS - Volume the Fourth (1794) and the address:-
{Antiquarius HI
{135 King's Road, S.W.3.

{Marilyn Hacker (books)
[the below is written to the right of the address]
Left my card and
she will contact me
if she finds something
I might be able to use.

At same arcade bought DARTEX, a set of 52 cards. No rules were there. The owner said the play is based on the "dart board" in which 3 darts are thrown each turn. Each player has three cards and play is like RUMMY. (??)

Called Colin Haycraft. He asked about the present status of AGOG in the States. Told him about the Castle Book reprint using Random House's plates. He will check with Random House about getting the plates for his use. I was afraid that this would mean split- ting royalties with Random House but he, without my bringing up the point, said that he has a good relationship with Random House and that they help each other out. He'll try to get the plates from Random House as a favor and then make the contract with me alone. He'll let me know by mail in about 2 weeks.

At Selfridge's made repros [reproductions] of the rules for BIG BOSS [illegible word crossed out] and SPELLBOUND (both filed in G & P folder).

Bought CRACK and SUPERPUZZLE (Peter Pan Playthings & Spear's). Looked at other dept. stores but nothing new.

To Graeme Levin's at 4:30 instead of 4. Returned BIG BOSS and SUPERPUZZLESPELLBOUND. Looked at POLYOPTOMY. The boars is as shown. [drawing of 3 x 3 grid placed as a diamond, with an arrow pointing diagonally up from left to the letter "B" and an arrow pointing diagonally up from the the right to the letter "A"] There are 27 trans- parent plastic cubes with a design on one face. Two play and take turn placing cubes, either in a space or on top of another cub - up to a ht. [height] of 3. Object is to line up 3 clear faces in a row in your direction (Player A or Player B) or in the vertical direction which is neutral. (can the winning line of 3 be on the bottom?)

Looked at THE GAME. The board is a very fancy plastic, but basically it is a 10 x 10 grid with two opposite corners marked, one with a square and one with a circle. 2 play and each has 5 pcs. [pieces] (plastic cubes marked on one face either with a square or a circle). Play starts with all pcs. [pieces] off the board. Players in turn start at their corner space- counting it as 1 - and then continue orthagonally, with as many turns as they wish, until (cont. on 11/23)
