18 WEDNESDAY - OCTOBER 1972
ST. LUKE, EVANGELIST - ALASKA DAY (ALASKA) - 292ND DAY - 74 DAYS TO COME
Rcd. [received] check from Tom Atwater for $35.90 for 3rd quarter royalties on ODD OR EVEN, TEMPO, and INTERPLAY. TRANSFORMATION earned $10.67 against the advance. Note from Tom that DOZO sold 1,660 units in the quarter, and maybe TRANSFORMATION will pick up.
Rcd. a letter from James M. Henle, an AGOG reader - but who got my address from Martin Gardner. Sent me a descrip- tion of two of his games - PETER'S GAME and PINCH (which I saw thru [through] Martin). He wanted advice on marketing his games; he had 10 or 11 GAMES. He is a teacher and has shown SKEDOODLE, NETWORK, BOWLING SOLITAIRE, HOLD THE LINE, and [illegible word crossed out] LAST WORD to his students - "and all have been received with praise.
Rcd. [received] a clipping from Harry Ferber (in a letter to BB) from the
THE JAPAN TIMES. Had picture and material on ACQUIRE, TWIXT
and a third - unidentified - game. (The clipping dated 10/18/72 -
but filed in 1972 misc.)
Sent a resumé, updated from the one I prepared for Fay Baker, and one of the pictures Dana took for the book jacket to Pam Ferguson of "What's My Line?"
Looked at ECCENTRIC with the thought of calling the co-inven- ter [co-inventor]. But it is a straight steal from CLUE.
Call from Felicia. She was contacted by Anatole Holt. He
wants to come to N.Y. and talk to her for some two hour
hours about his games MEM and HAGGLE - concerning her
handling them and discussing some changes in them. He also
suggested other game experts sitting in. Felicia asked if I
would be willing to join in. Sure. She'll tell him that the fee
will we $100 (which we'll split - at first she was thinking
of asking $200 - but that is high she realized) She'll write
him and set it up if he agrees to the fee.
She has the rules of the an educational GAME (about 12 pages)
which she'll show me when I come in.
Hallmark sent back Kaplan's TACTICS puzzle saying they solved all of the parts in 20 minutes. (see 8/25) Kaplan contacted them telling them - among other things - that it would take me a long time to do the last part. Bob Johnson who hadn't tried it himself, agreed to look at it again.
There is no word on FOCUS. They are hiring new people to work on their Game and Puzzle program.
BALI royalties held up pretty well.
She asked and I told her that it looked quite encouraging for JUNGLE RACE and VIEWLINE (she liked the name).
She asked if I would bring up the matter of her client's educational device using view-master (in general since I (cont 10/17)
