5 THURSDAY - OCTOBER 1972
279TH DAY - 87 DAYS TO COME

----
Felicia called early to catch me before I went out.
Chuck Dougherty is in town today and tomorrow and perhaps
we can get together to brainstorm a TV GAME. Told her that
I could today but not tomorrow.
Later she called that Chuck was too busy today. He'll set
something up next time he is in New York.
Called Marvin Channing. Out for the day. Called Eve Auchincloss.
She is in Europe and will be back next week. First call about
ONE AT A TIME BY THE MILLIONS. Second about BOOK WORLD; I still
haven't been paid for the last column.
Drew up layouts for NO WAY and SOLITAIRE DICE on the same
sheets. Got 18 repros [reproductions] on Boston Road. Also repros of
the two refund checks from I.R.S. before depositing them
in Knickerbocker. Got $350 check for Leonard Willett and got
repro of it.
Rcd. [received] the game REQUISITE from Stanley Chess. (See 10/3)
Rcd. ''NOST-ALGIA'' (No. 150). Philip Cohen mentions ''G & P'' and
the following CHESS variants:- ALICE, BALANCED EQUIDISTANT,
BALANCED MARSEILLAIS, BEROLINA, BEROLINA GRID,

GRID, KINGLET, LEO, NIGHTRIDER, REINCARNATION, REPLACEMENT,
U-CHESS, ULTIMA, ZOMBIE.
Bill Rawlings had short descriptions of ALICE CHESS,
SCOTTISH CHESS, and BEROLINA CHESS. In his ratings
noticed COLLISION and FELIX AND ROVER, which are un-
familiar to me.
In a section "Nost in the News" they reprinted an article
from ? on "Sid Sackson."
Phil and Dale brought me an ad for <s>the</s> THE HOWARD HUGHES GAME
in Bloomingdales (discarded).
Also brought me a letter from Allister Macintyre who
is involved in a project called OPERATION CONTACT, which is an
attempt to list all intellectual game and also a listing
of game players around the country. He asked for my advice
on this project, also on selling his [illegible word crossed out] game REVOLT!
He sent me an "Intellectual Game List" with a great many
games listed, most with the company. Without researching
the following appear unfamiliar to me:- ALAM HALFA & EL ALAMEIN,
AIRBORNE TACTICS, ASIA '40, ASSUALT 1949, AZTEC, GUERRILLA,
