16 SATURDAY - SEPTEMBER 1972 | |||
<br>280TH DAY - 106 DAYS TO COME | |||
---- | |||
<u>Earl</u> stayed here until after lunch. <s>Walked</s> BB went with him | |||
on subway (on way to meet Edith). Earl went to Peter's. | |||
Made a new, simpler, version of <u>GRASS ROOTS</u>, which tenta- | |||
tively I call <u>BONUS</u>. The board is as shown. [drawing of a 5 x 7 grid of squares in various colors: blue, yellow, orange, red, green, and purple. To the left there are circles, one each of the same 6 colors. The circles are aligned with, but separated from, each row of the grid. The colors are not in any obvious pattern] When 2 play | |||
each has 15 pcs. [pieces]; when 3 each has 11 pcs; | |||
& when 4 each has 8 pcs. | |||
One player chooses a "bonus" color ^circle and | |||
places a special marker in it. The next | |||
player starts by placing his pc. [piece] in any | |||
square, except a "bonus" color square. The next | |||
player then places a pc. next to the pc. | |||
just placed. Next to can be orthogonal or | |||
diagonal, except that placement in a "bonus" | |||
square can only be by orthogonal placement. | |||
If no open spaces are available next to last | |||
placed pc. the next player can occupy any | |||
square except a "bonus" square. Score 1 point for plurality | |||
in each row and column, and 1 point for each "bonus" square. | |||
No score for ties. Best to play a round with each player | |||
starting from the same space, and with the same "bonus" color. | |||
Played a number of times with <u>Phil Laurence</u>. Good. | |||
Rcd. a telegram (after considerable aggravation) from <u>Lech Pijanowski</u> | |||
