12 TUESDAY - SEPTEMBER 1972
OLD DEFENDER'S DAY (MD.) - 256TH DAY - 110 DAYS TO COME

BB Didn't like the name NOW YOU SEE IT and suggested LINE-UP but that can suggest a sports game.

On Chambers Street brought four copies of SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN getting me up to date thru August '72 (50¢ each.), except for March '72 which I messed up on when I gave a listing of my needs to the owner.

Bought 25 nice sized plastic boxes for 5¢ each at Job Lot.

While a "warm body" at Mike Buschkopf's office worked out a game, GRASS ROOTS for possible use on cereal boxes. [drawing of a game board, the first drawing is lines only and was scribbled out. To the right of the scribbled out drawing, there is a drawing of a rectangular board filled in with various smaller geometric shapes. The smaller shapes are colored in purple, yellow, green, orange red, blue, and brown. The colors are in no particular pattern. The shapes resemble Tetris pieces] 2 to 4 play. Players in turn place markers of their color letter in boxes colored areas. The first play must be in a 1 - unit area, the 2nd in a 2, the 3rd in a 3, and then any size. Play must be in an area adjacent (not diagonally) to the last played in. During the beginning limi- tations, if no area of the proper size is available, a smaller one must be used, unless this too is not available in which case the smallest available is used. When no adjacent area is open, player plays in the smallest (his choice if more than one) available area. Score one point for plurality in each row, column, and color. When 3 or 4 play, two tying for high score 1/2 point each. For a more skill game play as many rounds as there are players, starting each round in the same area with a different player. Later refinement:- Provide a special marker and place it in any area. Play then starts adjacent to it, etc.

Also worked some new ideas for FUN CITY. Included a "Power Index path" where factions are moved to indicate their power in the city. Players can move on the steps and also can move a faction on the Power Index on each turn, amounts depending on the faces showing
Position on Power Index determines a salary collected when 3 or more of that Faction shows; also when taking over control. Get money by taking back original 10 cards. [circle] allows player to start a "shake up" which is similar to starting bribing. [illegible word crossed out] Factions are rated from 6 down to 1 depending on their position in re- spect to each other. Win by controlling a set number of points, varying with the number of players.

Got repros [reproductions] of PROFIT and PAYOFF on Chambers (I believe) street. Since one copy was 10¢ each and 2 copies were 6¢ each, got two of each.
