31 THURSDAY - AUGUST 1972
244TH DAY - 122 DAYS TO COME
Rcd. a notice from Jim Scully (F. Daniel) that his wife had a son on 8/22.
Rcd. a letter from Earl Perel. Asked my opinion on sharing
royalties with someone who does models for him. He'll
be in town the weekend of 9/17 and would like to get to-
gether.
Rcd. a letter from Don Laycock. He rcd. QUERIES 'N THEORIES and
is sending a carving in return.
will be in U.S. in summer of '73.
Sent me short descriptions of the following four "Jigsaw
games":- THE GATE OF THE SUN, NORTH FACE (Quite interesting),
TABLELAND, and SPELLBOUND.
Sent me repro [reproduction] SLEUTH problem in "Mensa" journal.
In the "Jigsaw Games" he didn't get a chance to look at
PIRATES or JIGSCORE.
Called Eve Auchincloss. She thanked me for the BOOK WORLD
column and apologized for not calling me. She said it was ex-
cellent, as usual. She is pretty sure it is not too long.
She thinks they'll want another one for Christmas but
she'll check with the editor and get back to me soon.
Second call to her about the bit on me. We'll leave
the first part same as last year but will say that
among my games are ACQUIRE, SLEUTH, VENTURE, MONAD,
and EXECUTIVE DECISION.
Called Jack Davis. Told him about the mentions of ACQUIRE, etc.
on ch. 2 yesterday. He'll try to get a transcript.
He asked if EVADE were mine. Sept. BRIDE'S MAGAZINE is
showing EVADE on top with MR. PRESIDENT and POINT OF LAW
below. A whole set of Gamettes were sent and they picked EVADE
at the magazine.
Told him of EVADE in BOOK WORLD and that I just couldn't
review POINT OF LAW. He agreed it was a stinker.
The new things he is expecting are BID & BLUFF,
NEOCHESS (based on SHOGI), MASTER MAZE, and IMAGE.
As soon as IMAGE comes in he will let me know so that
I can pick up a review copy. I'll bring the Xerox
info with me for him to copy.
Marvin Channing called. I asked if he had heard from
Irving Woods of Western Publishing. No, so we'll for-
get about them. He'd like to try ONE AT A TIME BY THE MILLIONS
before showing to the art director. I'll go there next Wed-
nesday at 4 to play it with him.
Though of the idea of allowing the player who takes off
to put the first new marker to make more incentive to
take off. (Will have to try it!)
Called Claude to tell him of Earl's letter. We'll get together
on 9/17 but I'll write to Earl to have him pick where.
