3M has tried
3M has tried to get Parker to take over the line and to  <br>
get M.B. to pay them for discontinue it, both without success.  <br>
3M also hinted that they'd like <u>Reiss</u> to rep for  <br>
them, but Reiss ignored the hints. He is discontinuing  <br>
repping - with possible exception of Mag-Nif and building up Hoi Polloi.
 
Hoi Polloi is not competing with Parker or M.B. but  <br>
with the other small companies such as Pacific, Executive  <br>
Games, U.S. Game Systems with their Tarot Cards (and  <br>
Stancraft is moving into this too). With their 4 page  <br>
"stuffers" Hoi Polloi will get more and more of this  <br>
market. (I think that Carl said that they will be sending  <br>
out some 12,000,000 next year.)  <br>
Carl said that Springbok had spent a lot of money preparing  <br>
to enter the market this spring and then decided not to.  <br>
He knows someone who has several contracts with them.  <br>
(I didn't say anything.)  <br>
I brought up the American Greeting Card games (<u>LINK-UP</u>  <br>
etc.). Carl said - "Well you don't see them around do you."  <br>
Carl mentioned that at the printers he couldn't help  <br>
but notice that "Gamut of Games" had ordered  <br>
75,000 <u>BRIDGETTE</u>s printed. He thought that this was much  <br>
too optimistic, but Phil said that they just didn't have  <br>
any money worries. Phil also said that his only connection  <br>
with "Gamut of Games" was in designing packages.
 
<u>Phil</u> and I postponed our date for this Thursday until we  <br>
had more games ready to work on.
 
To Lakeside. <u>Norman Stein</u> not there. Told "Karen" the same  <br>
story I told him on 7/6. She'll check on <u>THE IMPUZZABLES</u>,  <br>
<u>SPLIT-LEVEL AGGRAVATION</u>, and <u>CHAOS</u> and see that I get them.  <br>
Went to <u>Bob Gellman</u>'s office but no one was there.
 
Walked to office of ''<u>WASHINGTON POST</u>'' (In Newsweek Bldg.)  <br>
to see <u>Eve Auchincloss</u>. In Washington. Left a message  <br>
for her to call me.
 
To Random House. Spoke to <u>Fay Hartog</u> about the possibil[ity]-  <br>
