15 SATURDAY - JANUARY 1972
15TH DAY - 351 DAYS TO COME
Rcd. a telephone call from Robert Grossman (See 11/14/63).
He has been doing more work on his GO variation. He
has one set up where there are 28 pcs. on a 20 x 20
field (pcs. placed in the spaces). Each one can move to
one of five spaces - by translating a given number
horizontally and vertically - the board being "toroidal" as far
as the movement is concerned, but not captures. He has a
randomizing method for changing the 5 possible moves
after each turn. Each player can move 14 pcs. of his choice
each turn. Go stones are placed where the pc. moves. I
said that the mind couldn't comprehend all the possibilities
and he said computers could be used. Also this version was
just to see how complicated he could make it. It could be
simplified.
He wanted to get into NYGA. Told him it actually wasn't
a club, just a group that meets when I do the leg work.
Told him to call me again in about 2 months.
He asked but I couldn't give him any help in having it
published.
Rcd. a copy of "Today" supplement of PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER for
1/9/72, sent by Herb Siegel. Had an article
"Games that pretend to be real". Among others it mentions : - THE CITIES GAME,
BLACKS AND WHITES, WHO CAN BEAT NIXON?, WOMEN'S LIB, PSYCH-OUT,
HE-SHE-HIM-HER, PASS-OUT, GODFATHER GAME, CLASS, SMOG, ECOLOGY,
DIRTY WATER, POPULATION, EXECUTIVE DECISION, FEUDAL, HIGH BID,
FOIL, ACQUIRE, PLOY, BREAKTHRU, MR. PRESIDENT, THINKING MAN'S FOOTBALL,
BIG LEAGUE BASEBALL, REGATTA, BLUE LINE HOCKEY, THINKING MAN'S GOLF,
WIN, PLACE AND SHOW, SPEED CIRCUIT, MONAD, VENTURE, FOIL, HIGH BID,

Wrote a note thanking Herb.
Wrote to Phil Cohen telling him I don't have ALBION but that I'd try
to get the issue he is interested in. Also that I didn't receive
CHALLENGE AND DELIGHT OF CHESSICAL AND DECIMAL.
Answered Donald Mah (see 1/14). Suggested BLUE LINE HOCKEY
and THINKING MAN'S FOOTBALL. Sent R.G.I.'s address.
Rcd. two TSG games from Simulations Publications: GRENADIER (new
version); NORMANDY (Second edition) (the "German Order of Appearance"
seems to be missing). Also S & T SUPPLEMENT #11 and GAME DESIGN #5
(which I already have).
Going over the card arrangement for FOREIGN INTRIGUE, making
some changes in which cities have the most; also eliminating
the "Remain" cards.
