FEAST OF THE EPIPHANY - 6TH DAY - 360 DAYS TO COME

Made two of the "Spy List" cards for FOREIGN INTRIGUE.

Rcd. [received] a letter from Omar DeWitt, who heard of me originally from
Chris Wagner. He has a collection of some 200 games including
ACQUIRE and others of mine. Also has AGOG. Would like to visit
me sometime when he is in New York.

Call from Jack Davis. He has rcd. a number of clippings on the
3M games, but not the BOOK WORLD. I'll probably bring it to him
next Tuesday.

Jim Dunnigan here for supper. He brought me a copy of a
clipping from the German Newspaper, DIE WELT, and a
letter from the editor (I believe) to Lenny (Somebody).
It is about war-gaming not being popular in Germany.
Jim told me he'd give me the A.H. [Avalon Hill] sales figures, which he
copied last time he was there, if I'd tell him who X is.
I did and he'll mail me the figures.
A.H. will be dropping GUADALCANAL, ANZIO, JUTLAND, U-BOAT,
BISMARCK, and MIDWAY.
Gave Jim Lowell Schecter's address and the $10.00 I got from him.
Asked Jim for $5 to cover my postage and he gave me $10.
Jim got together with Chris Wagner this week. He offered him
$20,000 a year to take over as president, while Jim becomes
Chairman of the Board. No answer yet. Chris is doing very well
as a management consultant.
Phil will probably be working for S & T testing games and writing
rules. He will get $4.00 an hour (altho Jim said Dale could make
$5.00 an hour in shipping dept.) Red Simonsen doesn't care for
Phil Orbanes, but he hasn't met him recently. (Jim and I agreed
that Phil had changed a lot.)
We discussed the magazine I would edit - possible name GAMES.
Some of the content: - Game Reviews; How to Play;
How to Vary: How they were Designed; Historical Background;
Historical Games; Complete Game in each issue.
When the magazine is definite I will go on salary - $15,000
for full time or $10,000 for part time.
Jim suggested my writing some articles of the type we were
discussing and trying them out in MOVES, which will have a
much more open format than S & T.
It is O.K. if I hold up on my next column till the end of January.
Jim got together with Bob Reiss today to discuss Reiss' handling the
T.S. Games.
The "Doubleday Military Book Club" (or something like that) approached
Reiss for material. They can use the T.S.G.'s in envelopes.
Jim will be putting all the T.S.G.'s in envelopes, probably starting
with BARBAROSSA. Once a number of the games are in boxes Reiss
will arrange for Brentano's to run a test on them.
Jim was talking about the S & T GUIDE which has had two issues (I
have only the first) and will be combined in MOVES. The 2nd,
