Red showed me a game QUEBEC 1759 which they may sell thru S & T [Strategy & Tactics]. Made copies of the complete info. Spoke to John Boardman who did the article in MOVES #4 which mentioned ELECTION (not by name). We reminisced about it. When I get a little free time he'll come here for a visit.
He told me about a series of books by Joseph Needham
called SCIENCE & CIVILIZATION IN CHINA (Cambridge University Press?).
Vol. 3 - "Astronomy" discusses Chinese games developing out of
divination and is very complete on Chinese games.
Spoke to Phil Orbanes, going out to the park to speak freely.
Phil Orbanes called He spoke to Fred Feucht today and Fred
understood our difficulties. If I can come up with games
other than pencil and paper to fit his artwork there would
be just as much chance to interest MB [Milton Bradley] in them. Some suggestions -
pegs, vinyl on vinyl, grease pencil on vinyl.
Marshall Lucas has a lot of other business in town so there
won't be any hard feelings because of Fred calling off the
date tomorrow.
Phil and I discussed the games for Reiss I told him about
NO WAY, but not the details.
He gave me the [illegible crossed out] rules for his PLOT;
FRIDAY THE 13TH, NINE LIVES, WORDS FOR THE WISE;
COUNTERPOINT; and the diagrams, without the rules, of
CROSSFIRE (HEX). To prove that the player who goes
first has a big edge we played a game. I then suggested
having two games on a sheet and having numbers
in the goal spaces. The winning player scores the
product of the two ends of his chain.
At Simulations I ran off rules for CONNECTIONS,
HEXOWORD, XANDO, AIR BATTLE, DRILL FOR OIL. Also playing sheets.
Gave these to Phil. He doubts if he will even show AIR BATTLE
and DRILL FOR OIL to Carl, just the other three.

players are often fighting bankruptcy, but feels it is
a valid element).
Graeme has so far made up 4 games and 3
have been accepted SPECULATE and the other two
that are to come out. I told him his average is astounding.
He asked if he could put a new introduction to my game.
COMBINATION and run it. I said of course and I'd accept
a minimum payment , or none at all. He said that he
wants to pay for everything. Up to of 20 will be kept by him
to send defray the cost of material he sends me.
Told him we probably will be in London in a month
or two. He invited us for supper and offered to have
Don Turnbull down, to save me a trip to Cambridge.
