TUESDAY 5 OCTOBER 1971 278th day - 87 days to come

Rcd. 1 answer to SLEUTH problem.

Rcd. ads from Dover Books. One was for THE UNKNOWN LEWIS CARROLL which I determined was the same as DIVERSIONS & DIGRESSIONS, which I have. Another was for PUZZLES IN MATH & LOGIC. (Filed in Book Ads folder.) Rcd. S&T Staff Newsletter #10.

From Lucerne wrote post cards to Phil Cohen, Earl Perel, Wald (including a note to Arthur, whose address I forgot to take), Ken Morgan, Felicia, Phil Orbanes, Jim Dunnigan, & Don Miller.

At "Carl Weber" bought GOLDGRÄBER and POSI-NEGA. Also a PUZZLE with 3 identical pieces to be formed into a pyramid. Saw FIZZOG - a German edition of an English game (I believe). Cards have half faces on two sides except the "starter" which has 4. There are 4 different features (such as eyes, beard or lack of it, etc.). Play domino style, scoring 1 point for each of the 4 features that matches the one played against. (children's game.) Saw EXPEDITION, which is the same or similar to Waddington's EXPLORATION. Saw CARTINO with the full deck, instead of the short deck as put out by M.B. Saw BAZAAR, but not ACQUIRE.

At Nordman dept. store saw WELT HANDEL (COMMERCE UNIVERSAL). Players get 12 "loading" cards. Move along a path (I think that 2 are provided) to different ports. Get "cargo" cards when land on a port first time; different values. First to reach end gets prize money (fixed amount). Play until all have reached end. Score cargo cards each has and deduct for "loading" cards left over. (Rough idea.) Saw QUADRO COMBI (Spear). Later [crossed out] bought it in London with the name FOUR SCORES.

In the same bookstore I bought in last year I bought two books: PUUR, NÁLL, AS, SCHÖNE SPIELE.

(cont. from 10/11) [10/12] definitely going to be put out by Castle. She rcd. another copy of AGOG which she is mailing to me today. [started 10/12]
