on the
on the reprint of ''AGOG''. Now he would like a book on math
games for children. Told him I'd like that and I'll contact him
when I get back. He'll take me to lunch.
I told Fay that I hadn't rcd. the copies of ''AGOG''. She called
Miriam, who is in charge of the remainders. Miriam came
down to speak to me (Fay left for lunch). She told me that
someone had either mislaid or stolen the 25 copies put aside
for me. She had 1 left and she gave it to me.
She said that I should't feel bad about my book being
remaindered. It happens to the best of authors.
I asked her about Castle Books and their parent - Book Sales.
The companies are run by two very honest men. Originally
Book Sales was (and still is) in the remaindering business.
But they then decided that, since some of the books did so
well, why not reprint them.
Miriam thought that they would sell the reprint for about
$1.95. Random House will buy 25 copies from Book Sales to
give me for the 25 I never got. This is in addition to any I
get from my contract with Book Sales.

To Brentano's. Phil Orbanes' ORBIT was attracting a lot
of attention. Nothing else new there. They had a whole,
out of the way, shelf of THE GREAT DOWNHILL SKI GAME,
price $5.
To Abercrombie and Fitch. Saw 2-WAY CHECKERS (Yippee, N.Y. 271).
It is played like CHECKERS except that the
checkers have numbers written on them as
shown (starting position).
[Diagram of a checker board. Some of the spaces are filled with numbers. 1, 5, 10, and 25.]

When no further captures (or moves, I guess) can be made
the player who has the highest numerical value of checker(s)
remaining is the winner.
He scores the numerical value of all the remaining pcs.
on the board - both players.
There are a number of variations which
I didn't get completely. One involves the pcs. being placed
face down. When a player makes a capture he must give the
number of his pc. doing the capturing. If he is wrong the
pcs. stay on. Another variation is transferring positions
as in HALMA. One way in directly across. Another is getting
