Getting started

MONDAY 30 AUGUST <br>
1971 <br>
242nd day - 123 days to come
----
Wrote up the <u>GREAT DOWNHILL SKI GAME</u> for <u>''S&T''</u> column.

The game <u>NOMINATION</u> came back from <u>Mary Hilt</u>.  I cut corners
on more than half the cards.

<u>Al Richter</u>'s two puzzles - <u>SIX BEADS</u> and <u>HALREQUIN</u> came back
from  Hallmark.  <u>Bob Edwards</u> liked them but was out-
voted.  The others thought they were spinoffs fo
<u>INSTANT INSANITY</u>. <br>
There was no word about whether they want to see the new
version of <u>SPELLBINDER</u>.  At first Felicia wanted to forget
about it (they are getting games from all over) but then said
she'd mention it again in another letter.  I said that I
could change the name and submit it as completely different
game. <br>
She hopes that they'll take <u>TORTS - THE GAME OF LAWSUITS</u> just
to show 3M. <br>
I suggested submitting WHAT'S IT WORTH TO YOU? to Stancraft.  She
thinks that, despite <u>Mary Hilt</u>'s ability, there is no future in
Stancraft. She hears that Saxon took them over as a tax loss. <br>
She also hears that Whitman is in a lot of trouble. <br>
<u>Herb Roth</u> had her in to play a game called DISHABILLE that
someone had put out independently. He feels that it is an
idea whose time has come and he'll probably handle it.
Felicia has a set of rules for me. <br>
I said that I had <u>LOTTERY</u> in shape to show to <u>Herb Roth</u>
but she said to wait until it is completely finished. There is no hurry.
<u>Phil Orbanes</u> called again.  <u>Bob Reiss</u> and his partner <u>Manny L</u>.
will be here Wednesday 9/8 in the morning.  Phil will not
come. <br>
I had brought up the matter of old material in my
collection.  Phil doesn't think it will come up but he
checked with Bob.  Bob will pay something for something of
this nature, but not full royalties. <br>
Bob is not interested in backing a general game magazine
as <u>Jim Dunnigan</u> wanted us to interest him in. <br>
Phil has a prototype of <u>THE NEXT PRESIDENT</u>. Maybe I'll ride
back with Bob Reiss and take a look at it. <br>
I asked Phil about the game <u>ZIG-ZAG</u>. He says it is
a deductive word game and he thinks it is better than
<u>JOTTO</u>.  I'll see that too when I come in. <br>
Called <u>Jim Dunnigan</u> to tell him of Bob's lack of interest <br>
