<u>Michael Hayes</u> has privately published a game called  <br>
<u>THE WAR LORD</u>. [WARLORD??] It is an abstract war game of a type similar  <br>
to <u>RISK</u>. The fighting is done something like this: A player  <br>
wishing to invade commits from 1 to 6 armies by secretly  <br>
turning over a die. The attacked player guesses the number.  <br>
If correct that many are destroyed. If not the other player's  <br>
invasion is successful. If he wants to continue his advance  <br>
he has to commit a larger number since only those can be  <br>
used in further advances. Players receive one new army  <br>
for each capital city occupied; a new army for a certain  <br>
number of industrial areas; a new army for a greater  <br>
number of rural areas, etc. [illegible crossed out]  <br>
In attacking if the defender has a high ground or  <br>
water protection the opponent is limited to the number of armies,  <br>
making it easier to be guessed.  <br>
Lowell brought two copies as presents but he'll bring me a  <br>
review copy tomorrow and mail one as a present.  <br>
He mentioned a naval battle <u>GAME</u>, also privately printed,  <br>
which is a real simulation. I suggested he send that to ''<u>S & T</u>''  <br>
