TUESDAY 13 JULY 1971
194th day - 171 days to come

Felicia called. She rcd. a letter from Jim Goldsberry which
included his comments on OPEN BRIDGE. She dictated the following
to me.:
"Several of our "BRIDGE experts" played OPEN BRIDGE and all came
to the conclusion that there was little training or teaching value in the game.
As we played it became apparent very soon that there was no
"finessing" to the game and no effective way to "draw the trumps".
With the play of this game taking this direction it left little to
skill and more to chance.
We were unable to determine if all four players were to see all four
boards as bidding and play took place or if they were to see only
their board and/or their partner's board.
From the exposure we have had to OPEN BRIDGE we do not feel
this is a property for Hallmark. If we have incorrectly interpretted
and played the game, perhaps Sid can clarify the rules somewhat
in which case we would be glad to look at it again."
We agreed that I should write to him about it, and give
her a carbon.
