WEDNESDAY 30 JUNE 1971 181st day - 184 days to come
Rcd. GAME DESIGN Magazine - #3. I am missing #2.
Felicia called to ask me what had happened with Richard Altabef and his game REVOLUTION AND COUNTERREVOLUTION. Told her that I had spoken to him and mailed it back. She had contract renewal from Hallmark for RED LETTER. They are giving another $250, but didn't send the check yet. In his letter Bob Edwards said that they would like our decision on RED LETTER as soon as possible as family word games are very high priority. We decided that she will mail 1 (of three) copies of contract to me and I'll sign it and mail it to them. In Bob's letter he said that OPEN BRIDGE was sent to Jim Goldsbury for study and X-CHANGE-WORD was sent to someone else I don't know. The only other game of Felicia's [crossed out] they have is LIVE WIRE. They are returning it. While it is not a bad game, it is not nearly as exciting as its name implies. Felicia spoke to Dorothy Shapiro of Brentano's. The 3M games are not doing well, except that ACQUIRE is steady but not spectacular. And SLEUTH did quite well from their ad. FACTS IN FIVE is the best seller and the only one they are putting in the X'Mas catalog. They did not receive EXECUTIVE DECISION yet and will not include something they haven't seen. The Sport's Illustrated sports games are moving.
Thinking about a PUZZLE idea I had on 7/17/70. Decided that a 6x6 square was too big. Made a setup for a 5x5 square using 7 colors, or rather letters, with the following distribution: 2-2-3-3-4-5-6. BB tried one of the puzzles and liked it. Possible name could be RECONSTRUCTION. One problem. There is a resemblence to Claude's game of DEDUCTION. Just how much, I can't honestly say.

ORBIT. It consists of two plastic globes attached together to form a solid a little off from a sphere. 4 steel balls are en- closed inside. [sketch to right of circle, divided in half, with four circles in bottom half] [crossed out line] Rcd. a letter from Charles Schaeffer asking me to confirm receipt of his game EFFIGY. Rcd. I'INTERNATIONAL WARGAMER (Vol. 4, No. 7 - July '71). Had some PANZERBLITZ revisions. Also an ad for an inter- stellar war game NEBULA 19, for $3.50. (cont. on 6/21)
