MONDAY 7 JUNE 1971 158th day - 207 days to come

Call from Bob Hallowell. He wants to call Parker to ask for permission to use ORBIT. Asked me who he should talk to. I suggested Randy Barton. (Later I found out that he spoke to someone else who was very accommodating. They will let Gametime use the name without charge, but will keep rights for themselves. If anyone else tries to use the name they, Parker, will fight it.) I asked about MANHATTAN MADNESS. He said that Jean, his secretary, loved the game.

Called Lee Horn. Told her about Felicia's reason for calling last week. She, Lee, said (not exactly in so many works) that she could get me on the Joe Franklin Show, but it would be against 3M policy to do so. If we get Bill Caruson to write O.K.ing it then she can do it.

Long day on OPEN BRIDGE.

(cont. from 6/8) [6/29]

Gametime is in trouble because of ENIGMA, difficulties with PITFALLS (which hopefully are being corrected by making the ball smaller and better quality control on the wand), slow sales with QUINTESSENCE (which hopefully will be improved with a more impressive package), and SWITCHED-ON ESP doing very badly. TRI TAC TOE is very strong. NINE OF SWORDS should be prof- itable. And they expect ORBIT to really take off. Altho he would rather not ask them, Bob could get more money from his backers. I mentioned that I had some other puzzles which Carl would probably like better than those I showed him. Phil said let him decide on those first. Talked to Phil about stock in Infinity-Quest. Jack Keller will be getting some in payment for his expenses in preparing the program. I can buy a number of shares, as speci- fied in my contract, at $10 a share. Asked Phil if he had heard anything from Renwal. They still owe him for AQUARIUS 2000 royalties.

When talking to Claude he told me that he had picked up a deck of regular cards with scenes of Spain for me - $1. (since I didn't really need them, he later gave them to someone as a gift.) [started 6/29]
