Rcd. <u>''NOST-ALGIA''</u> (No. 133, May 1971). Gave rules for one of <u>Vernon
R. Parton</u>'s new CHESS variations - <u>GORGONA CHESS</u>. (See 4/13.)
Called <u>Claude</u> to check on his visit to Felicia on Thursday.
Spoke to Anne first and then Claude called me back.
<u>Felicia</u> liked <u>SAMMY THE SWINGING DRAGON</u> and thinks he
should give that first priority. At first she didn't care
for <u>PACK MY TRUNK</u> (the one of carrying furniture on a head
carrier, especially after Claude had said that Jules Cooper at
Ideal hadn't care for it. Then Claude said it might be good
for Schaper and Felicia agreed. Also they are coming to see
her Monday. | |||
She'll check with Hallmark whether they want to see the solo
version of <u>DEDUCTION</u>, which he hasn't finished yet.
When I spoke to Anne she didn't seem to be aware that I had
given Claude the idea for the solo <u>DEDUCTION</u>. I asked Claude
if he wanted to see my layout for it and he said, not really.
He said that he had been thinking about a solitaire
version for some time. I reminded him that he had said
"It's too bad that I can't make it into a solitaire game" (see
5/4). He then said that of course I had helped with my idea.
Probably he would have thought of the idea himself, just
as I would have thought of the mixing idea for
<u>EXECUTIVE DECISION</u> myself. And that certainly I should get
5% of what he gets for the solo version of <u>DEDUCTION</u>. (After
I realized it was the recognition I wanted, not the money.)
Claude said that when he played <u>EXECUTIVE DECISION</u> only he saw
the possibilities in it and that probably take a number of
games to really get into it. He felt that the equipment was
rather skimpy for $9. | |||
Marty came with Claude to Felicia's and she gave Claude a game,
<u>RIDERS UP</u> for the children. I told him that I'd like to re-
produce the rules and he said that after they play it a
couple of times I can have it.
Played <u>PLANES</u>, Annette and me against BB and <u>Phil</u>. They
won a close one 48-44, after we were way ahead. They
both said that the new rules are better than the old and
Phil said that this is the game that will make me.
In my talk with <u>Claude</u> he suggested that I use the fact that
Random House violated the contract by not giving me a
chance to buy the books before they were remainder as a
leverage for not paying for the returns of <u>''AGOG''</u>. |
