To Brentano's looking for the two books Claude had told me about but couldn't find them. Later called Claude to ask in which section he had seen them. It was in the "Game Book" section where I had looked. They must [have] sold out. I asked him more info concerning the books. YOUR MOVE appeared to be puzzles based on CHESS, CHECKERS, GO, and other board games. (Claude had been interested since he was thinking of doing a similar type of book.) A STUDY OF GAMES was a series of essays on various aspects of games, rather than rules of games themselves. // At Brentano's bought SERIOUS GAMES.
In 42nd St. library looked at copies of DER SPIEGEL:- all of March '71 and the first 2 weeks in April. Couldn't find the article on "Games for Adults." In the March 15th issue there was an article on PUNKT IST PUNKT. FUSSBALL-SPIELE which seems to be a "soccer" game altho I couldn't understand much. In the same issue there was an ad for a game put out by Shell called DAS GROSSE SHELL RENNSPIEL (The Big Shell Racegame).
//At Marboro bought 4 copies of AGOG. To { Bob Reiss, 230 5th Ave. Rm. 800 to meet Phil Orbanes. BB and I said hello to Bob Reiss. He had just rcd. word that NINE OF SWORDS was doing well on a test by "The Book of the Month Club." It was twice as popular as PITFALLS and almost as popular as ENIGMA, which lists for $6 - not $10 that NINE OF SWORDS lists for. Phil said this was a test mailing and that now it probably will be included in the fall mailing. Phil and I went over what he wanted for 34 SKIDOO. I gave Phil one arrangement which I got from Kraitchik and he already did 4. That left 7 for me and I have till the end of May. Phil gave me catalog sheets for the Reiss line. Classic Games:- Fancy CHESS sets, including a 3-D. Mag-Nif:- (All puzzles - except as noted):- THE MAGIC BOX, PHAROAH'S DILEMMA, PSYCHE GENERATOR (gadget), SWITCH, PSYC-OUT (game), CURIOUS CROSS, ASTRO LOGIC, PLATO'S PLIGHT, EVEN STEVEN, LUCK-OUT (game), LEVITATION, HAPPY CUBES.
