WEDNESDAY 28 APRIL 1971 118th day - 247 days to come

Rcd. the S&T Staff Newsletter #8. (May 1971)

Fay Hertog called. The gal in charge said that the order def- initely went to the warehouse, but they are very slow.

Called "Thomson", the eastern sales manager for Jones Publishing Co., and asked him about getting a copy of RACE FOR SPACE. He has a copy for me, except that the name is given as TRIOPOLY. Parker objected to this name and they are printing new boxes and rules with the new name. I'll go there tomorrow to pick it up. He also wants to show me some other games, including one called MANHATTAN. I told him that I had a puzzle game called MANHATTAN MADNESS.

him to forget about it.)
He had a copy of DISCOUNT (see 3/3/70), but he had lost the rules.
Gave him S&T #22. At home looked at what I had from American Iguana, publishers of CLASS. I am pretty sure they only do their own games. Thought that Hobbit Games, since they have CHUTZPAH, etc. might be interested and called Thomson with their address.

Played LIVEWIRE - SUDDEN SHOCK with my nephew "Eliott", and then with Dave. It played fairly well, and was over very quickly. I added a screen so that players could set up their pieces secretly.

Listened to Lech Pijanowski's "letter" on a cassette player I borrowed from Dave. I'll have to play it slowly taking notes. One piece of good news: In an article on board games in DER SPIEGEL they said that the best two were ACQUIRE & BAZAAR.

Phil Orbanes called and I called back. NINE OF SWORDS is ready and I can come up to look at it. Will go there Wednesday at 3:00.
Reiss has a puzzle called 34 SKIDOO, which is a 4x4 magic square. He would like to prepare a folder with several different solutions. Phil asked me if I had any info on this. Told him I'd check and bring it with me on Wednesday. Found several hundred solutions in MATHEMATICAL RECREATIONS by Kraitchik. [bracket] Bob Reiss
