MONDAY 5 APRIL Monday in Holy Week 1971 95th day - 270 days to come
Called Random House and spoke to Fay. Fabio is in Europe until the middle of May. She saw a memorandum saying that AGOG was being remaindered. She didn't hear anything about a paperback version and suggested that I call Fabio late in May. I asked her about my buying some copies at the remainder price. She'll check and call me back.
Felicia called and spoke to BB (I was on jury duty). She had a letter from Whitman releasing FOCUS. She wants me to call her.
Pete Swift called and asked BB to have me call him.

pcs. Then this pc. is turned over to the attacker's color. If 3 pcs. are now next to another enemy pc. this is also turned over. Etc. Sometimes an entire group can be captured in this way. Sometimes the remaining group is less than 7 pcs., and is removed from the board. Win by eliminating all of opponent's pcs. (There are interesting possibilities.) Showed Al my version of AGON on a quadrille board, based on the Amberstone's version on an andifferentiated board. (In 1963 diary.) There are resemblances, tho they are different games. The GAME Al told me about was played on a checkerboard. Each [diagram of three circles. First has two horizontal lines across middle. Center has upper right quadrant marked by double lines. Third has no markings. Labeled left to right: 6, 6, 4.] player has 16 pcs. as shown. They are started on the first two rows on either side - didn't get the layout. The pcs. all have a king's move. In addition a pc. with markings can pass over one or more pcs. with markings (can you use enemy?) which are lined up properly. Must be next to the "track" to start and end up in space next to end. The plain piece captures by replacement, but only a marked piece. Object to get 8 track pcs. across the board to the last row or, if captures reduce numbers, the most across wins. (Does the plain pc. have to stay out of its own end row? Probably, if the game is viable.) (Rough idea.)
Played a game of PLANES with BB using in each symbol --
5 - 1s, 3 - 2s, 1 - 3. It worked O.K. but I didn't have very
much development.
Al Richter hadn't called Felicia to check on his games. Told him about TRY-ANGLES and House of Games and the possible interest of M.B. in QUADRUME.
