TUESDAY 30 MARCH 1971

Seward's Day (Alaska) 89th day - 276 days to come

Rcd. a book ad from Jerry Frederick. THE STUDY OF GAMES (Wiley). It is slanted towards educators & psychologists. It has an extensive bibliography. (Filed in "Book Ads" folder.)

Rcd. a letter from Donald D. McIntyre, who had written to Martin Gardner. He sent rules and description of a game ZEE-ZAG.

Felicia called to tell me about a letter from Bill Caruson. They are all booked up thru 1972. If I work on a three dimensional game (PLANES) it will be completely speculative on my part. He, Bill, doesn't know anything about Jim suggesting it to me. Felicia asked Norman Monath if he would be interested in doing A GAMUT OF GAMES in paperback. No.

A second call from Felicia to ask me about FOUR SCORE for her re- port. Told her it was like TEEKO.

Called Jack Davis for a belated "thank you" for the GRIT clip- pings. Jan said he was extremely busy at that time & would call me back.
They have one copy of EXECUTIVE DECISION. It should be in the stores in the next week or two.

(cont. from 3/27) [3/29] He showed me MOVIE MOGULS and the way the components are just thrown below the platform. He has been having trouble with the head of Research Games. He wants them to take a cut in royalties (which are in the teens since they supplied all the plates for the art work) for advertising. Ken & his partner want to give some money from their royalties to the Motion Pic- ture Relief Fund - for publicity and also to protect against law- suits since they didn't get releases for the pictures of stars to be used. They could break their contract for breaches and he wondered if they could get an agent to get them a better deal. I told him that, since they had the plates, they could do just as well going to manufacturers themselves. He has some other GAME ideas, including one that had almost been accepted as a TV game. He is interested in having an agent handle them & I told him about Felicia.
We walked up to Brentano's to see if MOVIE MOGULS was in the window. Not yet.
ACQUIRE was out and the clerk said it would be in soon. MONAD, HIGH BID, and VENTURE had less copies than the other Gamettes. Saw BEAT THE DRAFT. Didn't see the inside but the package said it was based on the actual draft laws and the object was to reach age 26 before being drafted. (Put out by the Third Eye.) They also had two of the Ravensburger Spiele:- WELTREISE and EUROPAREISE, (AROUND THE WORLD and JOURNEY THROUGH EUROPE)
