THURSDAY 18 MARCH 1971

77th day - 288 days to come

Called Ken Morgan to tell him that I won't be in town to- morrow. I'll call him next week and set a date.
Asked him how MOVIE MOGULS was doing and he said slow so far. He hopes that the Brentano promotion will help. He didn't get to see Tower of F.A.O. Schwartz last week but will soon.
I asked about VINCE LOMBARDI'S GAME due to his death. They had about $50,000 invested in a TV commercial which has to be completely changed. Now they are looking towards MOVIE MOGULS as their "salvation".
I said that they really need other non-sports games in their line. Ken agreed and suggested that maybe I could supply them. We'll discuss that also next week.

Felicia called to check on whether I had reached Al Richter. Tuesday at 2 is OK for her. I told her that possibly I would join them. She said that Gary Sherbell will be there later in the afternoon with his corrections to TORTS - THE GAME OF LAWSUITS. Told her that I'd call Monday and tell her if I was coming, and also would report on my visit with Al Richter.

Mike Alber here in the afternoon. Brought me SMESS, SCAN (which is another one by Marvin Glass), MASTERPIECE, and CAPER. ORION is still not in production. If I don't get one from Randy Barton he'll get me one.
He did a little bit of looking at my collection and seemed mildly impressed.
Showed him AGOG. In the review section he asked why I didn't include ROOK and I couldn't honestly remember my specific reasons. Must have been the games are the same as those that can be played with regular cards. He said that last year ROOK sole 1,000,000 copies for the first time. He con- firmed my surmise that it went over big in the "Bible Belt."
SMESS he said, did surprisingly well last year.
SITUATION4 and SITUATION7 have been dropped.
We talked about MONOPOLOY and THE LANDLORD'S GAME. He thinks that Darrow didn't want to give anything to Lizzie Magie, but Parker bought her off for several thousand dollars.
Only the elder Barton knows, and he's not saying.
I mentioned my S&T column and he wasn't much interested. Then I mentioned the piece I did for BOOK WORLD. He had heard that It was in preparation and contacted the editors. They told him it was too late. I told him that last year there wasn't any- thing by Parker that excited me. This year, if I still wanted, I'll probably do ORION rather than MASTERPIECE. Which is just as well since they have a fortune for advertising the latter, and nothing the budget for the former.
When I mentioned the possibility of a newspaper column he brought up Richard Moon who is still doing a column for the San
